When swapping out mobo, do you need those foam pads for the backplate?

I currently have the thermaltake 2.0 pro all in one loop. The backplate pad, had these two sticky pads when I first installed it, well I want to switch to a better motherboard. Will I need new pads, or can I run without them, just screw the backplate that came with the thermaltake set to the new mobo without pads. The new motherboard is a sabertooth 990FX Gen 3 R2.0, pretty damn thick and solid. Because I sort of wanted to do this like....RIGHT NOW lol, and before I start taking apart my computer I need to be sure I can just mildly rip/remove the current ones, clean the plate and just screw it to the new mobo. While were on the subject how do I get the current plate off because they had glue on them. Do I rip them off, use some sort of remover? The pads under the big bold letter E.

If you do not have any anymore just go to your local hardware store and get it

It's Basically insulation tape double sided not the best picture but there are also grades of thickness and width to as well

Do you know the exact size?

i would go a 1/2 of a inch a inch would be a little big but when you go buy it you can tell by looking at it what size will work best for you

I measured the size of the other backplate for the Intels, its 3.5mm long, 1.5mm wide, but I am not sure how thick. I am guessing 1mm. ? Also how do I remove the current thermal pad from current board without damaging it. I guess I wont build new rig today

Just pull it off and use your finger nail for the rest when i pulled mine it actually was stuck to the Backplate instead of the Board itself

Honestly as for thickness you don't need it to be that much 1mm like you said should work and again when purchasing it you will see what the different sizes are i went to homedepot for mine

I wouldn't worry about the double faced foam tape as long as you can still hold the back plate while snuging the pump/cooler your good. It's there to lightly hold the back plate in register. I agree that a roll of tape is handy to have around in any width and it's easy but sticky to cut.

it's not possible to reuse the old one's i have done this and it works

Then don't bother with it. As long as you can get the retention screws in your fine.

Ralph, it's not needed at all if you can manage to hold the back plate and get a couple of screws in it. You can use some masking tape to hold it temporarily to get screws it too, that's all the sticky pads are for. I have the same cooler and the pads have tremendous holding power, I used them once and no more, too hard to get the back plate off in one piece.

I just changed the back plate on one of mine upgrading the cpu water block. If you are sure the foam is not there at act as electrical insulation, then you may be able to not use any at all. In my case with a CHVFZ mobo I have a thick rubber pad 2.5mm thick that acts as insulation (EK block). The plate I removed (CM 240L) had a hard nylon type insulation on the plate. In a pinch you could use a couple of layers of thin cardboard, like cereal box thickness. Tiny dap of super glue to hold two layers in place, Macgyver it.

Try those sticky outdoor fixers, they are about 1mm thick but you could use extra layers if needed.
