Thinking of switching...

My recent BSoD issue has prompted me to think about making a major change in my computer. Currently I have a Q6600 G0 step, with 8Gigs corsair DDR2, on an Asus P5Q Mobo. The other hardware I am satisfied with but with the rash of BSoDs I had recently which I think is solved as of tonight removing a system device that was using asacpi.sys file I have thought of changing back to AMD.

I usually update/upgrade my PC every other year with tax refund money, this year would be my time to do so again, so I am thinking of going to a AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition and a suitable board that will use my current Ram. I left AMD use when CPUs hit the 1.5Ghz range ages ago and would like to hear some people who use them currently opinions on quality, speed and lifespan.

So AMD users, chime in please.

Look at my Q6600 system specs. No Issues.

I have mostely AMD, but also some Intel (Q6600 is one of them). I like the AMDs better. But that is not based on a scientific analysis, just gut feel. The AMDs seem to run faster and the Q6600 (in a Dell box) is a dog. Pretty slow compared to e.g. an AMD 5600+ duo core.

I'm not going to get into the mines is bigger than yours game, but I will say the Q6600 is a fairly old processor, so I'd imagine it'd be pretty slow compared to todays processors.

When I posted my replay to the OP, it was simply to say that the Q6600 isn't causing me BSOD's or issues.

As for AMD vs Intel, go for what you like

True, but the 5600+ is even older. Nevertheless, the Intel I-series seems to be very potent processors.

Turn off ACPI in the BIOS.

I have used AMD processors for many years as Intel prices rose. No problems with any of the many CPU's I have used. The Phenom range I haven't used yet. Am still using an Athlon dual core 3Ghz, which runs all the games and software I need. Including new games. See my system specs.
A lot of people are mislead into thinking they need to upgrade there PC every year or 2, this is not true. I hope this helps.

i may be wrong but i thought all phenom motherboards used DDR3 ram...
