Thoughts on Corsair's H100i Cooler

I've been reading that Corsair's Link software doesn't work with Windows 8.1. Right now the fix is a registry hack.

Looking at stuff like this because part of my upgrade is to move to Windows 8.1.

Other sites reporting the same...

Hopefully Corsair can get it fixed instead of blaming Microsoft; it's not like the 8.1 update was some deep dark hidden secret.

Anyway, that's the only issue I see with the H100i, and really not much to make me look away from it.

I started with a 80i, upgraded to the 100i. Noise is a issue if you are stress testing and generating heat, all fans make noise at high rpm. Some make a more irritating noise than others.

I recently bought a Cooler Master Glacer 240L. Twice the aio as the 100i and the same price. The included fans are a bit better noise wise than the 100i but still are loud at 100%. The 240L well cool better with less fan rpm that he 100i. The 240L at 1000 rpm cools like the 100i at 1800 rpm on identical system

If you haven't already bought I would highly recommend the Glacer 240L. One of few aio's that is expandable. If your on a budget I have a nib Antec Kuhlur H2O 920 I'll sell cheap.

CL does seem to have problems for many users. I have always had excellent results with it, I miss it now that I'm using the 240L. There are many other choises, both hardware and softare for control of the cooling system. If no budget constraints the Aquacomputer Aquaero 6 is the best available system controller.

I've already budgeted for the H100i so financing is not an issue. Also you seemed to have missed my earlier posts regarding the style of cooler I'm looking for, and thus seen the Antec would be out of the question.

As the the Coolermaster 240L, yeah that definitely looks intriguing and is definitely worth looking into a little further. Thanks for the tip there.

As for fan controllers, don't need, want, or use them. Plus my Gigabyte motherboard I just got it in (G1. Sniper 5) already utilizes Smart Fan control, as does my current Gigabyte board. That said, I can't say I really need any fan software, and aren't using any now so...

Regarding the Corsair Link software, the issue is just occurring with Windows 8.1

Wow, I somehow missed that post when I read through the thread. Whats worse is it is right above mine ......

With the pro 2.0 you can always mount one fan on the outside of the case in the back, thus reducing its inwards profile

I did this with mine. The pics are old, I got rid of the usb 3.0 wires and ran the fan wire a hidden route after extending the wire.(& my outer fan is a 140mm)

Yeah I also have a HAF X case (http://www.sevenforums.com/pc-custo...king-cable-management-tips-2.html#post1183427) but I prefer to have something like the H100i sitting that the top as opposed to a single rad screwed into the back. It's a look/style thing with me.

The 120.2 rads cool so much better, you can run low fan rpm and maintain low temps. I prefer the top mount in a push/pull exhaust configuration. Using your board for fan and pump control is the cleanest solution, although I wouldn't mind having a Aquaero 6 and it's gadgets like flow sensors, temp sensors, level sensors and on and on.

Regarding the Corsair Link software, the issue is just occurring with Windows 8.1

The Corsair forum has many members with problems on any version of Windoze. They are working on a firmware patch for 8.1 according to RamGuy.
