I've been using Threatfire in conjunction with Avast for quite a while. Seems to be a good combination. ThreatFire is behavior based where Avast is rules based. They team up well and I see no speed degradation, even on my old AMD Athlon 2000+ with 1 GB of memory.

Just got a new rig... Intel i7 920 with 6gb ram. Very fast but I was disappointed when I tried to install ThreatFire as it said it was only for 32 bit systems.

Now the good news. There is a 64 bit beta. Go to the Threatfire support forum and you'll find an entry entitled, "Threatfire doesn't support Vista 64bit?" The last page of the discussion gives a link to the beta software. I'd post it but I don't think I'm supposed to do that.

Its working very well on my W7 x64 in conjunction with Avast.

Nice, thanks for info.
I stopped using avast after I got some rogue called antivirus 2009 and avast! did nothing to stop it. Also, the Web shield seems to slow down pc a bit and take 60MB+ More RAM which is awful.

Well, no go for me with Threatfire.

Two things I noticed since installing it:

1) Downloads seemed to take forever to finish. They would get to 99% in the browser download window (using Opera) and they would sit there and sit there. They would finally finish, but overall not very good. Obviously ThreatFire was doing something as the file was being finished.

2) Left 4 Dead. Could not get it to launch. Would just sit there halfway through the loading process after choosing a game/settings. Even suspending ThreatFire would not get it to launch. As soon as I uninstalled ThreatFire, it loaded just fine. The game was never a problem before the install of ThreatFire.

Oh well, seemed like a good app and a good idea. Perhaps once it gets out of the Beta (64-bit) it might operate better.

That's probably beyond my abilities (or my tolerance for risk)! FWIW, PC Magazine and PC World both reviewed it and gave it pretty good marks. Some reviewers think it takes up too much CPU, but on my three machines, I don't even notice it running.

omg i didn't meant real malware, from what i can see threatfire is like a behaviour based HIPS...give it a shot cuz outpost x64 fails some hips tests which outpost x86 passes

Back to using ThreatFire again as they released a new beta. You can find it in the PC Tools forum quite easily.

Seems to be pretty solid so far and my previous problems with it seem to have been fixed.

So now I'm back to using ESS and ThreatFire and the two seem to work pretty well together.

What's the version number? I want to see if mine updated automatically.

EDIT: Never mind. No auto update beta versions. Got new version running fine.
