I just noticed this over the last week or so. Whenever I save a new picture to the desktop, it shows as a generic thumbnail instead of the actual photo like before. Even some of the old pictures switch to the generic version after clicking on them. How can I revert back to the actual photo?

By any chance, did you save the picture which is displaying as you desktop bacground?

Right click on a icon and select properties, open file location. If you specify the location of the file, does it still display with the generic?

Location says Desktop. What do you mean, If I specify the location of the file?

I should have said to look at the View tab when you open properties. It should specify the path of the file as that of the actual picture.

I'm going to suggest you try this (if you desire, you can create a system restore point before doing so)-

Icon Cache - Rebuild

Thumbnail Cache - Clear and Reset

Will try this weekend, thanks. Have a few dozen tabs open that would be deleted if I restarted the computer like it says to do.

I tried something suggested on another forum. Right click on the desktop and click refresh. That seems to have solved the problem and the thumbnail photos on the desktop are back to the actual pictures.
