Tiny Fonts

Something changed in Windows 7 that is showing "tiny" fonts within various programs. It is not the programs themselves since it happens in unrelated programs. Also many of the programs fonts are just fine, only a select few are very, very small. Within Windows XP the fonts are just fine.

I'm suspecting that either some install deleted or changed a particular font. I tried System Restore, but no help.

If anyone else has experienced this phenomenon I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Would a "Repair" process as shown on this forum fix fonts?

Thanks. Jim

Hi Jim, Welcome to SF,

I suspect it might be the DPI settings.
Try this Right Click on Desktop > Personalize > Click on Display (left side corner)
There try to change it to Medium 125 % or Larger 150 %

Hope this helps

Edit : Forgot to mention this requires a reboot to take effect

Thank you Capt. for your comment, possibily another approach would be to restore the original default fonts, if so here are the instructions.

You can remove any changes that you've made to your display settings.

  1. Control Panel ..Fonts
  2. <LI class=step>In the left pane, click Font settings.
  3. Click Restore default font settings.
System restore would not work in this situation, as you have noticed. Good luck

I did try to restore the default fonts and here is what happened ....

I clicked on the Restore Default Fonts and the button went gray as one would expect. Then nothing. I went out to walk the dog and 5 minutes later the button was still gray and no indication anything was happening. Since I never used this button before, I really don't know what sort of response I'll get when completed, but I would say it isn't working.

I hope no one else runs into this "tiny font" problem, but I did correct it.

I used the instructions at http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html . It is kinda like a "reinstall" and it refreshed everything including my font problem. Didn't seem to affect anything else I had in place.

I appreciate the input from the other forum members

I went through the same problem and, finally, found a very simple solution: just added the font folder to the PATH system variable (in my case, "C:\windows\fonts"). ¡That was all!

Hope it will be helpful for others confronting the "tiny fonts" issue.
