Tip for straightening mouse cable

So I went out and treated myself to a new mouse and keyboard(RAT 7/Steelseries merc stealth)bit of an upgrade from a trackball and basic mini keyboard,it's weird using a normal mouse again.But my problem is the braided cable on the mouse will not straighten,has any body got any tips, tricks,do's,dont's?It is a bit of a pain in the bum.I just need to get the hang of,game play now,from what I have been told once you get the hang of it,you won't go back.

Depending on vendors, each use a different type of braided sleeving, some more rigid and stiffer than some others. I use a Razor mouse and it's braided sleeving is very flexible.

It is a fine braid,and quite flexible,but where it was twist tied,the little sections keep getting stuck behind the desk/monitor,I've tried everything from slightly pinching even wrapping around a pencil,\i think I will have to invest in a bungie...
