Solved Title bar glow

Is it possible to remove the white glow in the title bar surrounding the text through hex editing? I'm on the aero theme, but transparency is turned OFF already.

I am not sure if you can hex edit it, but that is part of the steam 971.png image which has a lot of transparency in it I have overlaid the steam image over a gray background to show you where it's at.


If you are using the default aero theme I can change that for you. I use Windows Style Builder Ave's Windows7 Style Builder to edit themes which separates that steam image making it easier to edit.
If you are using a custom theme you will need to ask the
theme maker. It's not cool to change someone else work.

You will need to do 1 of these 2 ways of Enabling custom themes for it to work.

yes I'm using the default aero theme with transparency off, background = solid black, color intensity to maximum, hue, saturation, and brightness set to minimum, and white titlebar text.

Here you go download the zip file and extract it to your desktop and put both 1 theme folder and 1.theme file in C/Windows/Resources/Themes
it will show up in Personalize as No_Glow you will have to reset the background and the hue and saturation that you have done.

Yes, that works very well. Which version of ave's style builder are you using? I'm curious.

I do not think the theme I created is dependent on the default Aero theme, but I would not delete any of the aero folders or theme if for some reason the theme I created would become corrupt you would have nothing to fall back on.

Am i doing something wrong or is the text also removed from the title? Ideally I'd like white text on my black/dark title bars (the glow looked horrid, but at least i knew what window was which - esp. important on ones not in the task bar...)

Edit: Never mind the idiot I was messing with some other tools and one of them turned off the text.

Welcome to the Seven Forums
You will need to ask the theme maker to change it, it's not cool to change someone's work.

Thank you for your reply.
I emailed the theme maker a couple months ago, asking him for permission to change it or have someone change it, but he didn't respond.
I guess he doesn't care, and I will only use it for myself too.

Try this, go to Post #2 of this thread it shows you where that text glow is at use this tutorial http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/266336-taskbar-button-change-color-orange-flashing-button.html will show you how to open up the .msstyles then export the Steam image #971 and edit out that portion with a image editor like gimp in that tutorial then save it and imported back in the .msstyles then save that and try it out on.
Make a copy of the original and save it so you don't corrupt it.
