There are quite a few in their 60's on here, myself included. I haven't met anyone in their 70's.

Yes in the UK at the present time it's 60 for a woman but that is set to change in the near future.

I know some people will shoot me off here, but I think that if everyone wants equality then it should also apply to retirement age. With the proposal to raise it, I would rather it stayed as it was so that the younger generation had more chance of work, but if they choose to raise it I think that they ought to raise the women's age first to the same age as currently exists for men. Once they are equal, then raise both equally. As it stands, with 60 for women versus 65 for men and assuming both live to the same age, women enjoy 5 extra years retirement when compared to men. Add in the statistic that women generally live 5-10 years longer than men and that means that they can claim their pensions for upto 15 extra years. Not exactly fair, is it?

I fully agree with your point about men and women. The women should actually work at least 5 years longer than men to account for their longer life expectancy.

But there is no way around the increase of the retirement age overall. The retirement funds will soon run out of money because of the changed age pyramid unless they raise the age. In Germany it was raised to 67 and that is probably not the end of it.
