Toggle keys mystery

For some reason the Caps Lock Warning beep does not sound whatever I do. I have followed all the methods to set and inset it described in your article ....

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3077-toggle-keys-tone-turn-off.html

The strange thing is that when I use the Num Lock key to set and unset the Toggle Keys warning beep, I can hear the tone indicating the setting / unsetting, but there is no sound when the Caps Lock Key is pressed in error.

The warning light comes on OK so will have to keep an eye on that rather than relying on the beep. I can live with it but it is puzzling me why this has happened.

Hello Snookie,

You might also check your settings with the driver software that was installed for you keyboard. It may have a setting of it's own for the Cap lock beep as well.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

This keyboard is "plug and play" designed to use Microsoft standard drivers, I have tried updating these but Windows reports the drivers up to date (Microsoft Windows Driver version 6.1.7600.16385) and the device is working properly.

I have checked in Control Panel and can see now other way of configuring the Toggle Keys directly on the keyboard other than through the Ease of Use Center.

:o Sorry I think it was a typo on my part .... I should have said "I can see no other way of configuring the Toggle Keys directly on the keyboard other than through the Ease of Use Center".

Which means I'm still beep less ......

Oh, ok.

I found a driver download link for your Saitek keyboard below. You can just select keyboard, your model, and Windows 7 version to get the driver download for it. Afterwards, see if installing it will give you a option, and more, for caps lock. :)

I had thought of that Brink, but sadly my keyboard is not listed. It is not the Eclipse III, which is more for gamers, it is the basic Eclipse that did not come with any drivers, it was designed to be plug and play.

I'm sorry to hear that. I must admit that I'm not sure why it's not beeping for you. You might see if running a sfc /scannow command may help if it's bad system file causing it.

That does look rather complicated for my poor brain .... and don't feel I dare risk it for the sake of a beep.

System Restore is not as simple a procedure as it was with XP Pro .... I have already tried using it to recover the beep and after failed attempts and stomach clenching moments I have discovered that Kaspersky Internet security throws a spanner in the works, despite being disabled, so in order to perform a restore I would have to uninstall Kaspersky first, re-boot , do the restore and then re-install Kaspersky ~ as I say a lot of effort for a beep ....

Well, if I can think or find anything else on this, I'll be sure to post back on it for you. For now, I must admit that I'm stumped as well. :(

:D Toggle Keys mystery solved! It was the sound card .....

I had Soundblaster xfi extreme sound card installed and found that there were persistent problems with media player playing music, which slowed then speeded up when I did anything on the PC, there were odd buzzes, crackles and pops, and all that despite having the latest drivers installed which were so say compatible with Windows 7.

The card has now been removed and I'm using the on-board sound with a special plug to accommodate my speaker system and everything is working as it should, including the Toggle Keys beep.
