Too bright white

Hello everyone.
I have a small problem when it comes to the intensity of the white colour in Windows 7. As it currently stands after tweaking the contract and brightness settings it is bearable, however, the downside is that my contract is undesirable low and that most colours are now too dark. So essentially the situation is that either I need to endure white that is too bright for comfort, or look at a screen that has too little contract and has most colours too dark.

Ideally, I would like to have the exact same colour profile in Windows 7 as I have in Windows XP. I'm currently using a Windows XP Home 32 Bit and Windows 7 Professional 64 bit Dual Boot set-up. For me, Windows XP does not have the problem described above. I should also note that the colour problem is only there when actually in Windows itself; I have no issues with how games look. Regardless, if it is not possible to have the exact same colour profile as in Windows XP; I'm certainly open to alternatives.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I am not sure how to convert color profile from XP to Windows 7.
I think it would be more efficient to calibrate your display for Windows 7.
Windows 7 will remember those settings.

Right click on Desktop - Screen Resolution - Advanced Settings - Color management tab -
Color Management... button - Calibrate display.

You can adjust the color settings with more flexibility using your Nvidia display software. If it's not installed, download it from here Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

If you are talking about your folder backgrounds etc., GoTo:

Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Personalization > Window Color > Advanced appearance settings...

This will take you to the XP style Window Colour and Appearance window.

Here you can adjust the "whiteness! of your, err, whites!

I agree with you that it is a bit bright. Mind you, my XP monitor was 8 years old. I think it had actually forgot what a white "white" was!

I've set mine to 250, 250, 250. It just knocks that glaring edge off.

**EDIT** Doh!! Think I may have got that wrong!
If I did, I can't remember for the life of me how I dulled down my windows explorer (not internet!) backgrounds! It must have been during a blonde moment when using style builder. I'll do a looksee and see what I turn up.

you could try flux ,it tones down your screen in the evenings and knows what time it is and when sundown is,it makes evening surfing easier on the eye and can be switched off temporally for the purpose of doing color work or watching a movie etc

If you really wanted all your "whites" off-white, or coloured. I reckon your best bet would be to get a custom msstyles / theme made up for you.

Find the R,G,B or HTML value of a colour you like. Then post a new thread F.A.O Bongo (who's pretty good with AveStyler from what I've seen) or PM him. Ask him to make it up for you. He seems a very obliging chap!

Apart from the initial replacement of three system files to allow the running of custom, or non-MS themes. There's no hassle. I use DeepXW's Universal Theme Patcher, but there's a handful to choose from kicking about.

HTH.
