too much license

Hi everyone,
Can i still use my license after i used it 3 times?
I used it on the same computer & onetime i had to call Microsoft to activate it again.
My question is, can i reinstall windows again and do i have to call Microsoft again?
The license goes to windows 7 profession 64bit.

On the same machine, the license can be reinstalled infinite number of times. You may have trouble activating online if theres been a significant hardware change, in that case activate by phone.

If this is an OEM license, mobo change will make it illegal to use the license on the new mobo.

I have used it 3 times on the same computer and i had to call one time which was the last time i formatted and i Microsoft to activate it.
Also i haven’t done any hardware changes.
i don’t understand why would i have to call to reactivate my license if it's on the same computer, oh and how do i know it's a OME?

MS's activation servers are not infallible, thats why.

If you bought it from a store in a nice package with a product key on it, its retail. OEM either comes preinstalled or from stores like newegg (system builder copies), its a limited license because its tied to the first motherboard its installed on.

Unless your copy of Windows was supplied shrink-wrapped in a box then it will have been installed by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and the product key will be displayed on a sticker on the bottom of your laptop or desktop case.

I got it from my school.
We were given them for personal use.

Technically the you shouldn't be using that copy of Windows any more if you left the school although it is sometimes legal to continue to use the product AFTER graduation - depends on the license of course.

However the activation procedure SHOULD work if you activate by phone and the computer is the same one as originally installed on.

Normally it will be automatic just follow the instructions from the telephone but in case of any problems you might actually get put through to an a REAL HUMAN. In this case explain say that your hard disk crashed or whatever and you have to completely re-install Windows.

(Normally the phone activation is machine generated - the responses are programmed following your answers to standard pre-defined questions like Is this copy of Windows used on another computer etc etc.)

Do the following as well - saves future problems.

Now once it IS activated take an IMAGE BACKUP that you can restore via a bootable dvd / usb device, That way if you need to mess about with the hardware or a program hoses up the system you can restore the image and shouldn't need re-activation.

At least for the AA license, it can be used even after graduation.

But again, check with your school. And in any case, you still havent told us whether you are not able to actually activate/validate or you're just wondering about the possibilities. Doing a phone activation is no big deal in any case.

Try this method for telephone activation without having to speak to anyone.

Click Start and type slui.exe 4 in the Search Programs field.

Double-click slui.exe 4 under Programs to open the Windows activation wizard.

Select your region and telephone the number given to use the automated activation wizard then follow the instructions carefully.

Once you've activated you can then create an image of your system for backup as suggested earlier in the thread.

where can i just buy a new license?
i have to buy a new hard drive soon, mine doesnt have to much space left.
