Toshiba a215-s7472 clean win7 32 bit install - cpu stuck @ 800Mhz

i have made several clean installs of windows 7 32 bit onto my a215-s7472 but the processor gives back a speed of 800Mhz, i installed the drivers as toshiba recommends (tsi4win7.exe) after that ... flash cards dont work (dont care) but speed gets stuck @ 800mhz....
bios 2.30 according to toshiba is the latest

i did a workaround, selected amdppm.sys instead of amk8.sys in device manager / processor... speed went up to 2.19 ghz but stays there, no more Cool n Quiet

i downgraded the bios to 2.00 (originally had 2.30) installed the preferred windows 7 driver (update driver) still gets stuck @ 800 mhz

im going to try with windows 7 64 bit ultimate, to see if it works (right now i have 32bit ultimate)

if anybody has an idea plz post it here :/

win7 64 ultimate had the same issue..... went back to bios 2.30 and 32bit ...

current config:
Toshiba a215-s7472 bios 2.30
AMD Turion 64x2 TL-64 with amdppm.sys drivers temp @ load ~ 64Celcius

amdk8.sys from widnows 7 gets stuck @ 800mhz,
amdk8.sys from windows xp gets stuck @2.2Ghz and temp rises 20+celcius

i already cleaned/changed thermal paste on the cpu, cleaned vents ....

anybody knows a good workaround to get cool n quiet working with the full throttling
(800mhz to 2.2 ghz ) plz let me know

First try simply booting into your bios and setting everything back to defaults.

No overclocking, no messing around with memory settings. Put everything back to the factory settings.

I don't think this will suffice but this step is absolutely necessary.

settings in the bios are simple "enable virtualization... etc etc ... " no memory bus timings etc ...

already did that ... still stuck @ 800mhz

The main thing is that that ALL bios settings are at their defaults, no overclocking, no memory timing changes.

Have you done that?

To have a solid working system, I recommend the following:

Clean Install - Prepare a drive for
Clean Install Windows 7

Immediately after running Windows Update and doing NOTHING more, then
make a System Image backup to an external USB drive.
Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

At this point, do NOT install any drivers or other Toshiba software.

Let me know if the system is stable.

I, too, have a Toshiba laptop, a Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5940.

I have used the procedures given in the links above.

Yes, you will need to fetch some, but precious few, updates from Toshiba. I'll get to that after you report back.

Please follow the procedures given in the links from my last post regarding installing.

If you follow those procedures, then you will NOT have Ubuntu on there anymore. Let's not complicate matters by having two Operating Systems installed. Let's concentrate on Win 7 and only Win 7.

my point of ubuntu was to show that is not only win7 that gets stuck @ 800mhz. ... right now im making a backup of my hdd... its going to take around 2 hrs :/

tonight im going to install a fresh copy of win7 .... dont know if 32bit or 64bit .... still gonna think about it ...

Ok first of all if you updated your bios that is the problem sometimes when updating the bios will underclock the cpu therefore you have to go to default settings then restart and it should come back if not

update the bios again if allowed reinstall the bios and it should come back this happens more often then you would think that is why alot of companies say dont update the bios cause it could cause hardware conflict but yet they update them with new drivers for us to use go figure

don't keep reinstalling the os your going to screw something up and give the hdd a bad sector just go through all the drivers and updates to make sure everything is in order

you also have a low end cpu that the factory could have modified before you actually used it just a few things to think about good luck


ps the os has nothing to do with timings that is a configuration issue

You will have less problems with 32bit.

it didnt work.... event with factory restore... (original DVD that came with the laptop) processor stuck @ 800 mhz, at this point i think it had to do with the bios update ...

re-installed vista from factory disc... upgraded from there ...
