Toshiba Qosmio X505 - Q870 freezing problem plz help

• Faulty component...
  
  
• Blown capacitor (faulty component?)...
  
  
• Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) damage...
  
  
• And probably others I have not considered, but the above are the most common...

everythings fine ..
tried it for long time nothing wrong
and tried OCCT for 10 min. with no errors ..
will do now 2 Processors..

But I have This Issue i dont know if its related to the freeze problem or not..
whenever i install updates for the windows 7 and when it reaches the SP1 update, the laptop freezes @ this point

Alright, so things work with 3 processors for sure? Have you run it long enough to be confident it definitely works fine with 3 processors?


Did the screen flashing happen when you thought it froze, or did it actually freeze and then later you got the screen flash after having done a hard restart of the system? I am a bit confused as to what you mean in your most recent post...

Ok sorry for the mess .. i will tell you what happened in the same order that happened to me ..

First of all .. on 1 processor or 2 or 3 or 4 processors the laptop will freeze on the installing update thing i told u about when it reaches 15%. I dont Know why

Second Thing i was working fine on 3 processors and run it for long time to make sure it worked good and thats what happened it worked fine no freezing at all.

Third thing i switch it to four processors bearing in mind that every change of processor is followed by a restart .. so i changed it to four and then restart and then work again on the laptop ... everything fine 10 minutes then boom froze so i got the laptop back to three processors and till now im on three processors looks fine nothing suspicious.

Now what happened later about the black screen flash is something usually happens to all the Qosmio X505-Q870 that came with NVIDIA GTS 360M . and i read it a lot and the most users have it .. its something about the compatibility issue between NVIDIA drivers and the Windows 7 X64.

soo updating the driver later from NVIDIA them selves solved the issue .
And You told me to stay with the drivers provided by toshiba and thats what i did which made it happen again ..

The Screen Suddenly will go black then will appear in windows xp theme and then black again and then back to the way it was followed by the Popup message i showed you .. its all about 2 seconds ..

Now that we are fairly sure this is a processor problem, you can update the NVIDIA drivers without an issue. How long have you let it try to install the updates when it gets stuck at 15%?

How do I reset Windows Update components? and run the FixIt.

i left the laptop on 15% for half an hour with no results .. i told u its a freeze because the circle that spins for loading on 15% stops spining and i know if the laptop has froze or not by pressing the num lock button on the keyboard if it lights on or off i know the laptop is not frozen and this counts on opposite situation .

so when it did freeze on 15% the SP1 installation .. the circle stopped spinning and the num lock pressing thing do nth. so i realized its a freeze plus the laptop will get hot because the fans will work only on low state..

I have A question about the issue i have

What if we changed the Processor and the freezing remained ?
Or Are you Sure 100% Its the processor ?
I don't want to keep changing parts without getting results you know its expensive thing to do ..

Another question ..

Now if we are sure its a processor thing then i must changed it right ..

My question is that Can i replace it with a bigger processor ?
like i have core i7 Q720 @1.6.

Can i change it with the new Core i7 2600k @3.4 and 8mb Cache ?
The one With the Sandy Bridge new thing ?

We don't know 100% it is the processor, but that is the most likely culprit given the testing done. It could still be the motherboard, though. A bad motherboard is more difficult to determine.

For a laptop, it is safer to swap your processor with the same processor. Laptop motherboards do not have upgrade capability.

Were you able to resolve the 15% issue with the FixIt?

The only advice I feel comfortable giving is running with 3 processors. I do not like to give hardware advice for laptops because they are very complicated to repair. Desktops are much easier to replace parts on. Laptops are very easy to damage in the repair process. For laptops, I generally recommend taking them to an electronics store or sending them back to the manufacturer for repair.

After 3 days .. The Laptop Froze on Three Processors !! it Just Froze

after that i switched to 2 processors but after also 3 days it froze again on 2 ?
