Toshiba satellite c650d takes hours to boot up then freezes

For the past week or so my Toshiba satellite laptop has been getting slower and slower to boot up and then will periodically freeze every 10-15 min for 3-5 min. I've uninstalled the mcafee program that started the issue, installed all updates, cleaned the hard drive and have run every diagnostic I know of and it just gets worse. Being in safe mode with networking does not make a difference. My wireless driver has also stopped working. When I run the startup repair it tells me that there is a non communicating external device (when I have nothing attached to the computer). Currently my computer has been booting up for three hours and has only progressed to the welcome screen. Please help!

Establish a Clean Boot, check the logs and System Resources, test your hardware and the other Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 to go over your install thoroughly.

If this is the factory preinstalled Win7 then it's the worst possible install one can have of Win7, smothered by bloatware and useless duplicate utilties with better versions built into Win7. To get Win7's native perfect performance I would do what most tech enthusiasts do and Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 following the steps in the blue link tutorial closely to get it perfect.

Until then I'd Clean Up Factory Bloatware.

I've tried several reboots, according to the instructions posted, and nothing seems to help, if anything they have made my computer slower. I had a technician remotely access my computer and remove a bunch of bloat ware as well, it made no difference. I've had this laptop for two years and it's never done this before. is it possible a driver has failed?

If you've only had an attempt to clean up the bloatware and not actually done the Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 then you still have the worst possible install of Win7 and have never even experienced native Win7 perfect performance.

My hard drive has crashed completely, no matter what I do it takes me back to the repair system screen. I'll just have to get a new computer or hard drive.

You do not have to replace your PC if the problem is a HD. But let's make sure that's what it is. Boot into BIOS setup by tapping the key given for it on first boot screen. Is the HD detected under Storage devices, or in the BIOS Boot order priority list?

If not then access the HD port and try to reseat the HD to check its connection as shown here; if this fails to help and still not detected it also shows how to replace HDD:



If HD detected in BIOS test the HD using the maker's HD Diagnostic long scan. If not available use Seagate Seatools burned to CD with Windows Image Burner, booted to run Long Scan.

If so then proceed with the steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start,
report back results as you go.
