I'm simply trying to share a folder on two Windows7 machines.

After 2 days and almost 20 hours of painfull google search and tries i'm still trying to figure out what is going wrong.

- Both computers are connected to the same WorkGroup
- Both computers are connected to the same HomeGroup
- Both computers share a folder using everyone full control
- In home/work and public files sharing is enabled, password is disabled for both computers (same settings with only password disabled)
- Both computers have the exact same date and time
- Both computers are identical (same model and config)
- Both computers are listed when browsing the networks on both computers..
- Machine A was used to setup the homegroup, machine B was able to joint it

When typing the computer name "\\MachineB" from MachineA it never work while machine B can access to MachineA shared folders

Definitively need help :(

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

I'm intrigued as to why you're using a Workgroup and a Homegroup. As both computers use Windows 7 you only need a Homegroup.

Have you tried sharing by use of the Public Folder?

Is Network Discovery enabled?

Hi

To add to SeaVixen32 comments, your network type will also drive the method of sharing:

Home = Homegroup
Work = Workgroup

You need the same type on both PC's:)

Because I use some old NAS devices, I personally use a Work network and workgroup over homegroup.

seavixen32: I was using homegroup and workgroup because I have other xp machine on the network. But after seeing peoples comments I dropt the homegroup on both machine and try to use my workgroup (work) Network discovery is enabled and i'm trying to share a simple folder on both machine (not built-in OS public folders)

UKMedia : Both computer are now configured for Work (workgroup) with same network config

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
- Both Windows7 machines CAN access to all machines of my workgroup (xp, seven, ...) except for one of the Windows7 machine who CANT see the other Windows7 machine (while the other Windows7 machine CAN)
- All the other machine CANT access to the two Windows7 machines.

What should I try now? I just want to have that machine available on my workgroup since the all use the same workgroup

Okay, I had a very similar problem a year or so ago. The PC that can't see the other PC's in your network, do you clean install or upgrade from another version of Windows? I had to do a clean install to resolve my issue.:)

It's already a clean intall.. I bought the machines , join the existing workgroup and then try to share a directory...That's all... nothing is installed yet ;o)

the unavailable Windows7 machine is not available to any machine

while the other windows7 machine is not available to any machine except the other unavailable Windows7

They both have problems...

for some reasons McAfee was incorrectly configured. Firewall and mcafee network connection need to be an home network and not a work network even if the network simply use a workgroup. Now both windows7 can communicate :)

One of the Windows7 machine is unavailable only to WinXP machine...I need to stop the firewall to make it work...i'm still trying to figure out which parameter can solve the problem... any mcafee expert ? ;o)

seavixen32 : I also need to understand why two others machine (xp) become *unusable* by taking 100% of the cpu after installing Microsoft security essential....that's the reason why I give a chance to McAfee on my two new Windows7 machines :) Anyway

I'm still trying to figure out why one of my Win7 machine cannot be browsed by an XP machine because of the Firewall (understand what to change in McAfee firewall to fix the problem) Then will have to get back to my Microsoft Security Essential problem :(

Did you try the latest MSE engine on the XP machines? I've found it works better on them. MSE does not auto-update its engine.

If you drop either or both firewalls, does the problem disappear?
