hey, i have a win7 home edition. i wanted to know wich is the best combination of softwares(like anti virus..anti-spyware. anti malware. and whatever else i required. i jus wanted to know..paid or unpaid.. how do i totally protect my pc.


i also need help in creating a proper. virus free backup..are there any specific softwares which ensure the protection of ur data.??
please help.

Probably no such thing as TOTAL security.

There are a lot of threads on this subject. One common combination is Windows Firewall, Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes, and some common sense about browsing/email habits.

As far as backup goes, you have to decide on these issues:

What to backup: just data? just Windows? both?

Method of backup: an imaging program like Acronis or Macrium or a file by file backup program like Synctoy, Cobian, or Second Copy. A file by file backup program will not backup Windows. An imaging program can backup both data and Windows, but I'd recommend you use a file by file program for your data.

I like Norton Security Suite & Malwarebytes combined and I use this EaseUs Free Todo to backup with.

There are both free and non-free choices. Good ones and bad ones in both categories. I use the free ones.

No one agrees on what is "best". Don't bother trying to find the "best". It's a matter of opinion.

I've already stated what I use (Windows firewall, Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes). Other choices work just as well.

The same applies to backup--many of the programs work well. It's largely personal preference. I use Macrium Reflect and EaseUS for imaging and Second Copy for file by file backup. All of these are free except for Second Copy, which is $30.

As was already said, you are never safe from malware - even with the best AV programs, firewalls, scanners and what have you. I use Norton Internet security 2011, but you can pick any free one (e.g. MSE) and be just as well off.

What is important if you want to protect yourself 100% is to make frequent images. Then you can always set your system back to a running state once it goes on the blink - for whatever reason. An image should be taken at least once per week - and if you are paranoid, once each day.
