Solved Touch pad not working

Hello!
For a long time my touch pad has not been working and I have been forced to use a USB mouse at all times. I used to be able to press the right spot on the touch pad to put out the amber light but there are no longer any lights at all. I am clueless about a remedy. Can anyone there diagnose it or suggest a possible solution? I would very much appreciate it. I am uncomfortable with the feeling that my computer is deteriorating bit by bit.

I followed the suggestion made for someone else with a similar problem. I removed the synaptic driver from programs and features and then rebooted my computer, but the touch pad is still not working.

Go to hp website here:

Software & driver downloads HP Pavilion g6-1b50us Notebook PC | HP® Support

Download your touchpad drivers there once more, and install them. Then restart. After windows boots up for a little bit, touch the part to activate the touchpad. See if that helps.

Greetings! I went to the website that you suggested then downloaded and installed all the driver versions one after the other but my touch pad is still not working. The touch pad had been working in an annoying manner and when I found a run key in the registry, I foolishly deleted it. Mea Culpa. Do you think you can help me correct my rash and impulsive action? I know I am not supposed to delete registry items but what is done is done. I can see from your first response to my post that you are a very knowledgeable and trustworthy man. If you cannot help me, I doubt that I will find a solution to the problem.

Try a system restore point before you messed with the touchpad the day or 2 before when it was working. Or week, it does not matter. Read this tutorial:

Indeed, we are all still learning, God willing!
The first thing I tried, years ago, when the touch pad's inoperability began to worry me was to try system restore. For whatever reason beyond the scope of my knowledge, most of the restore points were unavailable; so I used the oldest restore point that I could find. I found that I had to use my old log-in password, but it worked. The restore point was well before the date that I messed with the registry, however, it didn't restore the touch pad. Do you suppose I might need to find a solution by correcting the registry? If so, How? and What? and Where? I am willing to try, but I need a little guidance or sources of information. Do you have those kinds of technical links available? and may I use such?

It could be that your computers hardware touchpad itself has failed. I am starting to suspect that as a reason. Is it still under warranty?

You are quite right! The logical next step is to check the physical connection of the touch pad, but that is a daunting task and I have other things that I want to do in the meantime. I will disassemble the computer, check the connection status of the touch pad and get back to you with the results as soon as possible. It might be 3 or 4 days before you hear from me again.

Your suspicion was correct. I disassembled the computer and discovered that the touch pad connector was not making contact so I reconnected it. It is now working fine!

P.S. It is now humming rhythmically. I hope that just goes away.
P.P.S. I would still be interested in informative links containing specifics about how to deal with registry problems. If you know of any that I may use, I would greatly appreciate that as well. Thanks again!

When it comes to registry issues,

Sfc scan now, and learning about the registry and messing with things in a virtual machine is a good idea. Wikipedia also has a great write up on the windows registry.
