A friend asked me to look at his Toshiba Satellite Pro Laptop as he thinks he has had some sort of infection.

The only thing i can find wrong is the Touch-pad is not working. Plugin Mouse is fine.
All that is showing in Device Manager is:

Mice and other pointing devices
- HID-compliant Mouse
- Unknown Device

I have downloaded both Synaptics & Alps Drivers from the Toshiba site, these did not seem to have any effect.

Looking about the Forums, i found out about Enabling/Disabling Touchpads...

No actual switch i can find....BUT the major problem is it will not let me into Control Panel--->Mouse ....just get an error box with no error showing

Also tried using the Command prompt with CONTROL MOUSE (or) MAIN.CPL but still no good

Any help would be welcome, Thanks

It brought up the little icons at the top of the screen, but done nothing :(

It is very odd, but i thought it would let me into the Mouse through Control Panel. Would even help if i could read the Error message that pops up, but all it shows, is a red circle with white cross in it

When you tried Fn + F9, you are doing this, right? :

Holding the "Fn" Key, then Pressing the F9 key, then letting go of both. Then trying the mousepad.

Sorry for the delay, i had gone to bed :sleepy:

After i wrote the reply about the Mouse working in the Bios screen and system recovery options screen i just left it sitting there, but switched off when i went to bed.

I just switched on, and was going to try the Fn + F9 that you suggested again AND you will not believe this, but the Mouse is working, yet i had touched nothing

Well, all i can say is Thanks for your time & help.....it would have been nice to know what had caused it

Thanks again
