Solved Touchpad reactivates after UAC prompts

Hey everyone!

I read an article a couple months ago about UAC's usefulness (combined with some 2+2 logic about making sure admin rights aren't so easy to get for malware) so I decided I'd reactivate it. I don't mind the prompts, and so far they've all been expected which is good

However, there is one problem... I have a Sentelic "Finger Sensing Pad" on my Asus G74SX. Normally I have it set to disable the touchpad whenever a USB mouse is plugged in, which is always because I absolutely despise touchpads. There's no way that I know of to completely disable it, unfortunately.

Anyway, whenever I accept/decline a UAC prompt, my touchpad reactivates itself regardless of if my mouse is plugged in, so I'm forced to unplug my mouse and plug it back in, in order for it to detect that it should be shut off.

Is there any way for me to make it so this doesn't happen? It isn't horribly inconvenient, but I'd really like to not have the problem anymore.

The Sentelic Touchpad 9.1.7.7 driver is supposed to correct the UAC issue. Apparently the trackpad becomes active when User Account Control window is up but it will deactivate itself again almost immediately after the UAC window is closed. Download here:

I do see suggestions to boot into safe mode for installing.

BTW, Fn+F9 should disable it assuming you have the Sentelic driver installed.

Lol, you'd figure that having a button on my keyboard that clearly illustrates a crossed-out touchpad would have hinted it to me.

I downloaded that driver, too. Hopefully that also fixes that. Thank you very much! I wouldn't have thought to look for driver updates.

Hi there
If you download the Generic version of the synaptics driver (whatever laptop model you have) you can get an optional prompt at boot up time which allows you to enable or disable the touchpad.

The action you choose lasts until you next boot. (You can re-set at any time via control panel). UAC doesn't effect it at all.

I've found this quite useful as on some Laptops having the touch screen enabled causes the cursor to jump randomly all over the place when entering data --really annoying problem.

The Generic driver works on pretty well nearly every laptop I've tried. (Sony, Dell, Acer, HP).
