Touchscreen and TV problem

Hi there all!

This is starting to p*** me off properly. Microsoft support couldn't help either.

I have a mediacenter with a touchscreen connected to it via analog and a TV connected through HDMI.

Problem is when i want to navigate through the touchscreen, the pointer jumps over to the TV which is in extended desktop mode. For somre reason the pointer only reacts to points and clicks on the tv and not on the touchscreen.

The problem is that i cannot change Monitor #1 and Monitor #2 in windows or nvidia control panel. If i have only the touchscreen connected there is no problem. If i connect the TV afterwards it makes the TV monitor #1 and Touch #2. So it makes it completely useless as touchscreen.

Is there any way to force the touchscreen to be #1 and then tv over HDMI to be #2? I also tried with a DVI-HDMI dongle. This solved the problem briefly. But after restarting it switched. Also i don't get audio this way...

Is there anyone out there who know how to do it? i know i can probably do it in XP. Just choose to make monitor #2 Primary Monitor. And that will make it #1. But in Windows 7... When i choose #2 as my Primary Monitor. It is still #2!

I have not seen this problem before and have not used touchscreens. Something to try though. Make sure your drivers are up to date for the card and for the monitors. I dont know if the TV will have drivers for it, but installing monitor drivers resolves some problems.

Otherwise, have you try clone instead of extended. I know this is not the setup you want, but can you try and then tell us what happens with that setup. Thanks. I hope that helps.

Right now i cant get the touchscreen to work at all. Windows 7 HATES touchscreens and has NO support for them whatsoever. Which i think is odd for such a new OS.

I can hardly find any drivers that will work. I dont know whats going on here... but i cant get windows to "start" the drivers i have. So right now making the touchscreen's touch drivers work is my top priority

It says Pointer Device Driver cannot be started or something like that

ok so some questions to lead in the right direction:

What is the make/model# of the Touchscreen
What is make/model of TV
What graphics card are you using (you said Nvidia, but the model is important)
Are the Touchscreen monitor and TV hooked up to the ports for the graphics card? or the on-Board ports?

What version of windows are you running? (Home Premium/Pro/Ultimate)
Is your version of windows 64X or 32X?

Can you look in the Device manager and tell me if there are any devices with problems (yellow problem triangles).

Programs to use to find info:

Graphics Card info: GPU-Z Video card GPU Information Utility



So here are the possibilities I can think of:

Driver issue: Win7 is supposed to have native support for touchscreens, but it sounds like it is treating it not as a screen, but a pointer device.

Graphics Card: It might be that your video card is only using one external monitor at a time because you cant use both ports at the same time. You might need to put one of them on your on-board (usually VGA) port.

or: there might be another issue as to your Motherboard. If this is the case, you would need to check online with the manufacturer of the motherboard to see if there is a BIOS update to fix the problem you are having.

I am trying not to overwhelm you with stuff, so I am sorry with all the options of stuff.

The first questions are needed to see what drivers you need and the rest is what could be wrong.

Please let me know if you are uncertain of how to do any of this stuff as I don't know what level of computer experience you have.

No worries. I'm a geek. I get all of it and most of it already tried. Nothing could get the touchscreen back to life.

I found the problem. It IS a driver problem... And the tech guy from microsoft that i talked to told me that it was something with the Windows 7 Architecture that they wouldn't fix in the near future as it would require an enormous effort to get Windows 7 more touchscreen compatible.

I just installed Xp and everything works perfectly. Here i can force the touchscreen to be #1 and tv to #2. Thank god for a good old OS that doesn't try to give you what it thinks is the best.

I got Touchscreen as #1 monitor and HDMI on #2. WITH Audio! amazing. Windows 7 just wouldnt let me do that.

But now i have run into another isse. I need the old Overlay thing that Nvidia drivers used to have. Where a video would play normally on screen #1 and in forced fullscreen on #2. I can't find Overlay settings in Nvidia control panel so i guess this is something for the nvidia forum...

Well, Im glad the first issue was resolved, a shame it took reverting to the older OS, but XP is still good, just not as good lol. You might ahve to use an older driver/Nvidia control Panel to get that functionality back if it was available previously. Good Luck!!

Yeah i got the oldest drivers i could find. Unfortunately those aren't old enough. Doesnt matter though. As long as its working for now. I already miss Windows 7 on the mediacenter. Everything looks way better
