.TP Video Converter

I need a converter that can handle .tp files quickly and do a good job. I found one called Format Factory, which is supposed to handle these files, but when I browsed to the folder containing them, it didn't see them.

I also found a converter by Danuisoft, which does see and work with the files, but is ultra slow. It took ~1 hour to convert a .tp of 6,818,635kb in size. There must be something faster...and better?

In Format Factory, try to roll down to "All files" (on the bottom right). Maybe it will accept it. But it does not convert everything.

You could also try the free version of Expression Encoder.It is quite fancy, although I never tried .TP files.

That shouldn't be too difficult....TP is simply the same as TS (a simple MPEG transport stream)
Do you want to convert TO .TP or FROM tp ??

For MPEG 2 to TP try Video ReDo to convert to TS and then rename to TP

I you want to convert from TP to anything also rename to TS and use TSMuxer from the link above

The fastest way would be staying in the MPEG family...say demuxing TS into separat Video and audio stream and them muxing those 2 back into a MPEG2 Program stream => Vob/Ifo structure => DVD (as an example

In FF, try to roll down to "All files" (on the bottom right). Maybe it will accept it. But it does not convert everything.

You could also try the free version of Expression Encoder.It is quite fancy, although I never tried .TP files.

I don't have FF installed, but even if I did, I really doubt that it would work with .tp files. I want to convert to either .mkv or .mpg, so that I can choose the video player that I want.

That seemed to work quite well, but I'm wondering if I need to use that muxer at all, because when I selected the original file, with the .ts extension, it played in VLC exactly the same as after running it through the muxer.

It's more like a safety precaution not a gospel
Generally it's a good idea because demuxing/re muxing takes care of possible sync errors that a converter might introduce.
But you're welcome to try...if the result is OK, simply skip the de-mux and go straight for the throat

If you want a MKV another thing you can try is MKV Merge (aka MKV Toolnix).

Just grab the 7zip version for Windows.



Just use TS muxer to Demux the RAW Audio and Video File.

The have MKV Merge create a MKV file from them.

This would be the ideal solution to convert to MKV, as theres no recoding so no quality loss. Your just repacking into another container.

Unless of course you are wanting to compress them.

Compression would be good, except that I don't have enough .ts files that it would save a great deal of space. That might change over time, so it is something that I will keep in mind. If I'm understanding you, using .mkv doesn't compress the files any? If not, what wrapper would? Would compressing reduce the quality?

To compress the Video and Audio you need to use an encoder to recode the files.
Such as Handbrake, MeGUI etc.

If these are BluRay files, they can be anything from 15GB to 40ish GB in size for 1 movie.
You can crunch them down to 4-8GB , depending on the movies, and still look good.

I decided to go ahead and try using TsMuxer on the videos, but when I played the output, the video and audio were out of sync with each other. Is there anything that can be done about that?

Did you rename them or did you actually demux/re-mux them?

Generally it's a good idea because demuxing/re muxing takes care of possible sync errors that a converter might introduce.

Both...first renamed, then demuxed.

This will convert TP files to TS and then to mpg

Go to Squared 5 - MPEG Streamclip video converter for Mac and Windows and down load mpeg streemclip for windows and install it.
Run the program / open the tp file, select convert to ts. It will save it back to the same folder with the same name with the .ts extension, open that file and select convert to mpg and it will convert it to the same folder same name with the .mpg extension. I find it works well and quickly, with any tv programs i recorded on my Divco pvr. I can then edit the file with pinnacle to delete the adds out.
