Trace Log Files pf Unknown Origin - Office 2013

I am having from 5 to 10 log files created every day within 3 hours of boot time. These files are formatted as ULS Tracelog files. Each file has the same header record and similar data. The files vary in size from 3 kb to 150 kb. They are named [actual machine name]-date-time.log. They are created in C:\windows\temp. A sample follows:

I am running MS Office 2013 (C2R) on Windows 7. I am not doing any 'deliberate' logging. I end up deleting these log files weekly and would like to eliminate them.

Any ideas on how to turn them off?

The reference pertains to Outlook. Outlook logging is for sure turned off. These log files are created before any Office application is started.

I haven't been able to find out much about them, but from what I have found it seems to be something to do with indexing.

I also use office 2013 Click to Run, but mine is the pro version as I need Access. I checked my temp files a few minutes ago & sure enough there were a heap there, but none of them go back more than a week.

I use Windows Disc Clean Up on a fairly regular basis, so perhaps that's why mine don't go back very far. You could try using Win Disc Clean Up & see how you go.

One thing to keep in mind is that Win Disc Clean Up only deletes files when the computer is shut down. It obviously only does that on shut down as it can be set to delete temp files & some of those may be in use. Disc Clean Up will also delete old Windows Update files that have been finished with & will delete also delete Windows Error Reporting files as well.

To get Disc Clean Up to carry out all the above functions, right click on it & use Run as Administrator.

I am also using the Pro version of Office. I have a second machine (laptop) using the same version, installed the same way, and used the same way. There are NO LOG FILES created on the laptop.

What makes the log files unique is the file name always begins with the machine name (mine is Home-Desk). I have run Diskcleanup and it deletes the files. My current solution is a Powershell script to delete files older than two days - it runs from the Scheduler.

It seems odd that no one notices this problem. Further, why would any developer create temp log files and not delete them.

Maybe someone will come up with a solution.

The only way I can see how it shows up your PC & not on your laptop might be the way you have Search set up.

I use a Samsung 840 Pro SSD on my PC & I have found if I disable Search in the Samsung magician software, as it recommends, then it causes search problems with Outlook. The problem with Outlook is not major, but I get a yellow bar below the reading pane saying Search is not working.

I would imagine that Indexing & Search are closely linked for quick file finding.

No we are not addressing the problem, but I just don't have a solution. In fact until you raised the issue I was not even aware of the temp log files. So as I have lived completely unaware of it for nearly 3 years I think I will continue to do so.
