I just reset IE...and now I have to do all these setting stuffs again. I do not remember having Tracking Protection set this way (by default?). Is this correct?

Well they are disabled, if you want them on you have to click on it, then an enable button will appear on the bottom right. Click on that.

I can see they are disabled. And I do know how to enable them.

Is this default setting? If it is I would keep them disabled until I have better understanding of what Tracking Protection is about. At the moment I do not know whether or not I want to be tracked(that's my initial and probably wrong idea of TP). And the setting: Enabled means I do not want to be tracked; disabled means I do not mind being tracked.

Maybe I should just ask you, Derek...do you have them enabled?

OK, to keep it simple, yes I have mine enabled.

I'm guessing at some point you installed the top one so you may as well enable it.

I have personalized list disabled.

A fresh install of win 7 will only show personalized list and by default it will be disabled.

You are correct, Enabled means "I do not want to be tracked"

Since IE reset, I have not installed anything and that's why I was kind of surprised seeing the first one on EasyPrivacy, under Address, a URL which seems already blocked? Or is that an adware file? Why would I enable TP on it? If I do enable TP...does it mean that URL is blocked?...meaning I don't want it to track me down, whatever that is?

Are there more URL's to show up on EasyPrivacy under Address that I did not install?

I can understand why Your Personalized List should be Disabled but I am not clear about Easy Privacy.

"A fresh install of win 7 will only show personalized list and by default it will be disabled"...did you mean fresh install of IE?

Hi,
I don't believe you ever posted any startup and services screen shots/ excluding Microsoft services of course ;)

You must of at some point download AdblockPlus otherwise it would not be listed,
Reset if deleting personal setting would not uninstall the ABP download it would at best disable it and there's a big IF there,

Scroll through your uninstall a program list,,
If you have Chrome/ Firefox see if it exists in them,
Cheers.

I have FF. But http://easylist-msie-adblockplus looks like, by its name (MSIE), from newly reset IE.

Should I then have this EasyPrivacy Enabled? Or Removed?

Btw...since I reset IE, not only that I am glitch-free but I am actually much faster. I had no idea I had been so much slowed down, and what caused it. My suspicion is all the tweakings I had done. And that's why now I would try not to fool around with default settings anymore. Tweakings to the minimum, if at all.

Unfortunately Add blocking conversations are against forum rules,
Put it to you this way,
I do not have any third party add blocking downloads ;)

You don't seem to care that all of these third party software will eventually make life harder than simpler,
The add something to Firefox and it ends up in Internet explorer and your unaware of it till now
Like I said prior I live a simple sheltered life :D
I believe the term is K.I.S.S.

Hi thrash... I have no idea what you just posted. It's neither helpful nor relevant. I have no clue for the term KISS.

Let me iterate: Since I reset IE 11 yesterday, I have not downloaded any program or software. I had installed FF last month while IE was troubled with hackers .

Hey Derek, what is the best setting for the EasyPrivacy: enable or disable or remove?

I think you are misunderstanding what those are, except for the personalized list, the other lists are premade lists available here,

Internet Explorer Gallery

So the one you have there is not a single blocked url it is the company providing the list.

No, I did not mean a fresh install of IE, I meant a fresh install of windows 7, when you reset IE you reset all the settings, that didn't delete that list, just like it didn't delete your favorites.

If you don't want that list you can remove it, I was just pointing out that it was put there by you at some point. If you are trying to keep things lean and like your current setup after the reset then by all means don't mess with it.

That would be a personal preference, I don't know what you like. If you would like my opinion just remove it if you are happy with how things are after the reset.

Until a few seconds ago I never heard or knew of EasyPrivacy as something one can install. Now, after clicking Get a Tracking Protection list online, I became aware EasyPrivacy is just one of many in such list...and further reading seems to suggest EasyPrivacy is beneficial.to have installed. I still do not know who or what installed it in my system.

I am certain I did not have EasyPrivacy before the newly reset IE and that's why it readily caught my attention when I was reviewing manage Add-on in Internet Option.

Addons to firefox never end up in internet explorer. They stay in firefox, they are firefox addons. Toolbars are what you are thinking of. Those can be added to any browser.

Your awesome for reading this.
Also, I never added or done anything to FF (i am new to FF, thus I do not know yet how to tweak it.). Just now, I found its add-on manager and EasyPrivacy is not there. Actually, FF has no add-on, only plugins.

None of the lists are enabled by default, nor would any setting in Firefox enable it in IE. You must have added it at some point and forgot. Not a big deal, I have 3 lists enabled. It's a protection IE offers, and they list these lists themselves. A Guy

Yep, I've been forgetful of late. True, I must have installed EasyPrivacy at some point and just cannot remember having done so.

Anyway, I've been toggling between enable and disable and do not see any difference. Same amount of ads either way. Maybe it has nothing to do with ads that I really want blocked? I notice I seem to have less ads with FF.

It's not about stopping ads, it's about stopping tracking via those ads, and other things

Some of the content, images, ads, and analytics that you see on the websites you visit are provided by outside or third-party websites. While this content can provide value to both you and your favorite websites, these third-party websites have the ability to potentially track your behavior across multiple sites. Tracking Protection provides you an added level of control and choice about the information that third-party websites can potentially use to track your browsing activity.

With Tracking Protection Lists, you can choose which third-party sites can receive your information and track you online. By adding a list, you can block content from websites that might have an impact on your privacy. When you add a Tracking Protection List, Internet Explorer will prevent your information from being sent by limiting data requests to websites in the list. For each list that you add, the setting applies across all pages and websites you visit, not just the pages you get the lists from. And each time you begin a new browsing session, the blocking stays on until you decide to turn it off.

A Guy's post #18 is my understanding.
We all need help to stop being tracked. It's been discussed for a very long time. It will probably be discussed for a lot longer time.
My understanding of programs that say they stop tracking is not as good as it sounds.
*A request is put to the site asking them not to track you. That site may or may not track you even after the request not to track you. That site may say they are not tracking you. You will have to take their word on that. Many adds on a none tracking site may still be tracking you.
Part of the way some sites make money is tracking and selling that information.
Because I'm paranoid I do not use any (don't track me programs or add on's) I don't want to communicate with them any more than I have to.

Do not track and adds on a site are two different things.
All site require adds to pay the bills and hopefully make a little profit.
That is why we have rule #13 in the forum rules.

We will post about tracking and none tracking until the cows come home or our keyboards ware out but we will not post about stopping adds on web sites.

Things that don't make money don't last long and that includes this Forum.

13) No ad blocking discussions. This site depends on ads to pay for the costs of running and maintaining it.
