Transferring a program folder

My wife and I share a desktop XP computer I want to upgrade to Windows 7 (clean install, format) and she use Printmaster 11, I installed this on my Windows 7 laptop and it appears to work so I believe compatibility is okay.

When installed you have Broderbund>PrintMaster>USER001>PROJECTS. I need the PROJECTS folder from my Printmaster XP install to be in my Printmaster Windows 7 install since it includes are my wife's projects.

I tried deleting the Printmaster Projects folder in Windows 7 and replacing it with a copy of the Printmaster Projects folder from the XP computer but when opening a project it says it can't find the file path.

Is there a way to do this?

I am not sure I understand what you are trying to do, but generally you can't move or copy something found under C:\Program Files to another machine. Anything in that folder is an installed program and should be reinstalled from the ground up if you change operating systems. You can move "data" around as you wish, but installed programs are another matter.

Well what the deal is my wife uses Printmaster to put together pictures of quilts she is going to make and then when she saves a project it is saved within the Projects folder so there ends up being all these quilt icons inside the folder.

Are you saying I should be able to copy each individual quilt icon and transfer it to the new install or they are married to it's current Printmaster install?

I don't know Printmaster from a head of cabbage.

I am saying that if that "projects" folder is somewhere within the installed program (eg, probably somewhere under C:\program files), then I suspect you may have issues if you try to copy it somewhere else.

I am assuming that the "projects" folder of the Printmaster program appears under C:\Program files somewhere on the XP computer.

If these saved files were saved elsewhere, outside of C:\Program files, then presumably they are "data", just like an mp3, a picture, or a letter to grandma. In that case, I would guess you could then access them with any new installation of Printmaster.

That is the way installed programs are typically handled, but as I say, I know absolutely nothing about Printmaster.

For instance. If you have Photoshop installed on computer A, you can't simply copy the Photoshop folder under C:\Program files on computer A to another machine or installation and expect it to work.

You might (??) be able to copy the individual files within the projects folder to the same folder within the Windows 7 install and have it work--as opposed to the entire projects folder--but that is just a wild guess.

But I may be misunderstanding you completely.

Yes the file path is C:\Program Files\Broderbund\Printmaster\User001\Projects so you are understanding what I was asking I just didn't realize I couldn't do what I wanted.

I might try copying one file like you suggested and I'll know right away if I can even do this, anyway thanks for straightening me out!
