Hi,
I have Windows Home Premium on my laptop and Windows Ultimate (both Windows) When I try to transfer files, I get a message that I do not have the proper authority. I know I have administrator authority on my desktop, but not sure of status on the laptop.

What do I need to do to be able to transfer files?

Thanks.

Goto start>control panel>users>your user. does it say "administrator"?

It may not just be a case of admin privs. what files are you trying to transfer?

The quick and dirty way is to copy the files to the C:\Users\Public\(pick one) folder, then transfer the files to where you want them on the computer you sent them to.

Sharing other folders is done through:

right-click the folder
go to Properties
then to Security
then to Edit

then set the permission level you want for each group. :)
