Transferring programs in a dual boot.

I've found much about dual booting but not so much about about moving programs from one to the other so hope I can get a little advice.

First off, just have to say windows 10 is driving me INSANE! I can't take big brother knows what's best for me anymore BS. So, I want to dual install Windows 7 but is it possible to move programs from Win 10 to Win 7, or am I going to run into yet another ridiculous restriction from Win 10 or some other something that keeps me from moving programs and such without having to use a USB storage or disc or...?

I don't know how one would "transfer" existing programs from any windows version unless it was a downloaded program you saved in your downloads folder and ran it after it completed.

Which programs are you needing ?

Have you thought of running 7 on a free virtual pc Oracle VM VirtualBox the problem setting up duel boot is you have to install the old o/s first or its a devil to get going with VB its dead simple

Transferring installed applications from one OS to another has always been problematic. This isn't due to Windows restrictions but to the potential complexity of an application installation. An installation will consist of some or all of the following:

Files in the Program Files folder
Support files
Registry entries
Configuration files
More

This could mean hundreds of files and registry entries in a variety of locations.

There are no real standards for any of this, just conventions which are frequently ignored. Application suppliers rarely provide any information regarding this. Only the application developer and installation program will know the details.

There are programs that claim to be able to move an installed application but I wouldn't trust them.

If you want an application installed you need to use the application installer. That is the easiest way.

The so called portable applications can be easily moved but they are the minority.

Hi guys, and thanks for the quick replies.

This is a new PC so not much yet I can't just download/install again. The only thing is a heavily mod'ed game that will not run on Win 10 due to an apparent bug of 4gb ram limit with DirectX 9. In fact it was that stupid game that put the nail in the coffin. I just finished moving and installing all those mods from the old computer only to discover Win 10 will not let me play it LOL. I'm was hoping to just be able to access it drag that dog into Win 7 somehow. No registry entries or anything from system files and what-not, just the game file itself. All other apps and files I can just backup or reinstall from scratch.
