Hey,

How would I go about transferring program settings from one hard drive to another?
How would I go about ...I guess, using the product license key of a Windows on one HD for another (same version)?

I recently had a hard drive fail on em. The last time I tried to make a system image with MS's backup tool, it failed at the end. Soon after, a system driver failed and I've been unable to load windows since then. Both hard drives (new and the broken one are set to dual-boot (Win/Ubuntu). Grub bootloader. I tried to fix the Windows of the broken HD with an installation USB, but it was unable to detect the hard drive/partition with Windows installed.

I've transferred most of the files I needed, save a few (HD error). What I'm trying to do now is transfer over the settings/data/etc of a few programs to the new HD (ie chat programs, eg Kakao, adobe products, passkeys etc)

I'm also trying to register the Win on my new HD so I don't have to use the product key (available, but I'm unsure if I have any uses left)

Thanks!

You can`t use the same windows activation on key on 2 hard drives if they are both active.

If you replaced the drive but not the motherboard, then the key will work to activate windows, you may have to make a phone call, all the instructions will be on the screen.

How would I go about deactivating one if I can't access it? Same motherboard.
