So this is what has been happening. I have apparently getting some BSOD because of what is believed to be my sound driver. I have a Creative SB Audigy 2ZS (WDM) on Windows 7 (if more information is needed then feel free to ask).

So I went through a series of driver updates yesterday with the help of a techie, and in the end I have no sound. I would like sound on my computer :D

Here's what was done:
I went to this site to download the support pack for my video card UNOFFICIAL SB Audigy Series Support Pack 3.8 (04/19/2010) - Creative Labs

Unistalled the driver a replaced it with this one using the setup it provided.

At this point I did not have any sound, so I tried some other things.
Found the Hardware Ids under the details tab under manage computer and got this:
Code:
PCI/VEN_1102&DEV_0004&SUBSYS_20041102&REV_04
PCI/VEN_1102&DEV_0004&SUBSYS_20041102
PCI/VEN_1102&DEV_0004&CC_040100
PCI/VEN_1102&DEV_0004&CC_0401
I went to the Microsoft Update Catalog found Microsoft Update Catalog for my driver and downloaded the Windows 7 one, got WinRAR to extract the cabinet files.
Used Driver Sweeper to clean the files from the Creative folder in program files.
Went to my sound controller on computer management, right clicked, update driver, choose file from computer, and selected the folder where the extracted files were found and updated successfully.
I still have no sound on this point, maybe there was something I did wrong but if there was a way to redo this without having to buy a new sound driver that would be so helpful.

I was redirected to ask Stormy this question, any help would be very much appreciated.

Someone say my name? :)

If it helps any I just this past week install HP x86 on an older computer with an old Audigy ES (same as the original Audigy minus the gold plated connectors and fire wire port), and also had the same problem with Daniel's new 3.8 pack of no sound despite everything installing properly.

What I ended up doing (and somewhere in the 3.8 thread is where I saw it I believe) is uninstalling the card and drivers through Device Manager, and leaving the apps installed. Then I used the previous 3.6 pack,

Download Audigy_SupportPack_3_6.exe

extracted it and installed just the driver and nothing else. To make it easier for you here is just the driver folder from the 3.6 pack,

Download Drivers36Supportpack.zip

Just unzip and run the setup.exe in it, and it will install just the driver (don't change any of the options on the confirmation screen).

Thanks for the quick reply Stormy, so I just uninstall the driver and run the setup? No need for using a driver sweeper? If its that easy then lets do it!

Well it was for me. The aggravating thing about it the whole issue was that was the first time using Daniel's driver packs since he started them back with Vista that I have run into problem.

Just remember to select to uninstall the driver for it in Device Manager.

P.S. Also did a quick check in the INF and the DevID for your card is in it.

OK stupid questions time. Speakers plugged into the correct jacks on the card, and are the speakers turned on?

System Restore enabled? If so be worth running it to the last restore point before the sound stopped working (been there and done that over the years too, and still haven't learned :) ).

Okay so system restore and that will fix all the random driver updates I did? Will I need to back anything up? Haven't done system restore but it can't be that hard right? :D So I'm going to run it back yesterday to the time it was working then I'll fix some other problems I had, sound like a good idea? And this will work?

Your documents and things like will be unchanged, only things that will disappear are anything you may have installed or any system changes made as well as getting the drivers back to where they were working.

Sorry for the double post,

I read that system restore was supposed to show some sort of status bar as it is going? Well my monitor is black and has been for over an hour now....is this normal? I did not restore too far back...

EDIT: The num lock light shows on my keyboard, but when I push the num lock button, nothing happens...I'm assuming the computer is stuck and I do not know what to do...

I had to cold kill it, manually shutting off the computer. Turned it on and apparently it works now haha. I have sound to, so now I will get norton instead of McAfee and update the ethernet thing? Will I need to update this driver again do you think?

If it's working I would leave well enough alone.

And no System Restore isn't supposed to take that long.

I will get norton instead of McAfee

Out of the frying pan and into the fire. :) Personally I wouldn't install either of them. Also I wouldn't be surprised it was McAfee that caused SR to act like that (and from what I have seen Norton can have the same kind of affect).
