Tried Win 10 for 6 weeks , back to 7 for good and couldn't be happier.

I gave Win 10 a shot and learned all about it , the more i used it the more i hated it . There is just tons of stuff that i will never use with it but the worst part of it is it's much harder if not impossible to remove all the stuff you don't like about it .

The "privacy" issues aside , it's terrible , long live 7 .

Bad news my friend. The anti-privacy push has fallen back to Windows 7 OS. Never had a thing to do with Win 10 downloads. Now my Download History is blank, Update Windows says there has never been any updates performed. I have about 11 hidden updates that are W10 upgrade/privacy related. Oh yeah, and security updates have stopped completely for the last month.

We can't operate an OS like this! I spend more time in forums like this and cleaning and cleaning my PC and cleaning ... not to mention the circus called the internet. Do this, along with a regimented security routine, and there is no time left to do ANYTHING but dodge bullets coming M$, Windows programs, Windows Updates, scammers, hackers, incompetent support, MY incompetence .... my head hurts. -Vet

The way I see it is if you want to use a M$ account for login and use all the new apps,
There's no need to upgrade 7
All anyone needs to do is join the insiders program,
Download and install win-10 on it's own hdd/ ssd and use it for free
https://insider.windows.com/

There's no risk and you can bailout at anytime you wish too and your win-7 is unharmed and so is your activation key ;)

This is a response to all that have commented in this thread , thanks everybody .

Thrashzone is not to be messed with , he rocks lol.

That is exactly correct , the upgrading and stability of Win 10 are quite good and much less problematic than in the past .

The most important question to ask yourself is " do these new apps " really appeal to me and if they do upgrading may be a good decision for you .

Once you get past the upgrading to get it for free and your permanently activated it's just a matter of doing a clean install and your good to go . That's the preferred way by most at least .

For me, I found none of the apps and programs beneficial or appealing , that was my biggest gripe and a reason to come back to 7 .

Brink and his helpers do an amazing job with assisting people who have issues and he's unreal with the tutorials, just amazing .

Of course you have a lot of people not liking the privacy issues but supposedly there are programs to take care of most of that now .

Problem with that is , Win 10 knowing a lot about you and your habits is it's main strength in making that OS work the way it does with Cortana etc..

I would not upgrade just to upgrade , i would also not dismiss upgrading because of fear of trouble with the upgrade part either , but most of all you need to ask yourself if the features and other things really appeal to you , that's the bottom line.

I'm of need with a little help understanding this; their is a cut off date for getting a free upgrade to Widows 10.
What is the cut off date when one can no longer use the free upgrade they installed without paying for it? Surly you won't be able to use it forever.

It does not have a cut off date. As long as the computer you upgraded to runs, it will be supported.

What is the cut off date when one can no longer use the free upgrade they installed without paying for it? Surly you won't be able to use it forever.

As I understand it, there is only one so-called "cut off date".

That would be on or about July 29, 2016.

That would be the last day on which you can first activate the "free upgrade".

If you have it activated by that date, you can continue to use it "for the life of the device". The meaning of that phrase remains to be clarified. I haven't heard anyone say that means "forever".

If you upgraded from a "retail" Windows 7, you supposedly will be able to reinstall and reactivate Windows 10, even on entirely new hardware purchased after July 29, 2016--if first activated on earlier hardware before that date. The last I heard, the finer points and nuances of that have not been clarified.

Yeah , I heard about those updates , I have been battling and removing "get windows 10" updates since moving back to 7 last night . Dang things are relentless , I agree with you on the current state of computing , I welcome death more and more everyday , time to check out it seems to me , it's a no win situation.
