Solved Trim, SSD and Windows 7 - not necessary?
"TRIM was introduced soon after SSDs started to become an affordable alternative for traditional hard disks as permanent storage in PCs."
According to wikiepdia -
Do you need to add TRIM when installing a fresh SSD and Windows 7?
Thanks

No.
Windows 7 will automatically turn TRIM on if the SSD is TRIM capable.
Last paragraph.
"Operating system and SSD support"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TRIM
There is also a way to check and make sure it is on. I'll see if I can find that for you.
I can't seem to find it right now.

Looks like Hopalong cant find it so here it is.
Run Command Prompt as Administrator and change directory to C:\Windows\system32, then type:
fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify
The result will be one of the following:-
DisableDeleteNotify = 1 (Windows TRIM commands are disabled)
DisableDeleteNotify = 0 (Windows TRIM commands are enabled)
Windows 7 x64 pro/ Windows 7 x86 Pro/ XP SP3 x86

Trim
Open an elevated Command Prompt (run as admin) and paste this command into the Command Prompt window:
fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify
If Command Prompt returns a 0 (zero), your drive supports TRIM and it is enabled.
If it returns 1 (one), the file system has disabled TRIM for your drive. This means your drive's controller does not support TRIM.

as usual amazing support thanks guys.
In fact I do have TRIM and it is enabled using the above advice.
I am shortly going to install/replace the drive with an SSD drive - I guess this TRIM will activate itself again?

Bloody Big Grin
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the DisableDeleteNotify command only reveal that the OS is sending the TRIM command, not necessarily that the SSD is TRIM capable and receiving the command?

I beleive you are right.
Capability will be listed by manufacturer and buyer should find out ahead of time if it is a feature they want.
