Trouble hooking up Active Subwoofer

Hello, I recently got a fostex sub mini, (Fostex PM-SUBmini 2 Thomann Greece) and I'm trying to make it work. I'll try and explain my setup :

-win7 machine on z87x-d3h mobo.
-using the onboard soundcard
-Managing audio through Realtek's management software.
-Speakers : m-audio studiophile av40 monitors


Basically I'm trying to make my 2.0 speakers to -> 2.1

I'm connecting the woofer from the "input" panel, with RCA-to-jack 3.5mm on my computer's onboard soundcard. (please click above link to view the back of the sub)

Green : m-audio studiophile av40 monitors (RCA-to-minijack)
Blue : Line-in (turntable & other gear)
Orange : Subwoofer (RCA-to-minijack)



As far as soundcheck goes, the software is able to identify the woofer, and I can successfully hear the test tone coming out of it. The same is true for Windows soundcheck as well.
However, when playing a tune from any source(audio player/browser/movies) the signal doesn't get to the woofer, thus I'm only hearing through the Front Monitors.
Since I'm able to hear the test tone, I figured the connections & the unit itself are okay.

Things I tried :
- completely removing & adding new drivers
- switched/tried different sets of cables
- Switching to 5.1+ channels on both windows and Realtek panel. (again, this works only for the test tone)
- Enabled the option to switch between center/subwoofer (this completely eliminated the test tone)



Other options :
- Connect the sub to the monitors using thru/trs-to-rca (but it feels wrong since the audio source is the computer)
- Get an external audio interface.

Is this a software issue? Could you please help me resolve?

Simple, don't bother with the realtek setup for subs you can do it all through hardware and it's better. Use 3.5mm (Green plug) to RCA to the input of the sub then another RCA to RCA from the throughput on the sub to your monitors then use the sub crossover to say 80 for a start and it will only handle 80 and below. Then your monitors will get the rest. If the throughput is not a high frequency crossover then it will be full signal but i'm not sure how this sub handles that so you will just have to try it. In realtek set your sound to 2.0 24bit 48 and the sub will make it 2.1 as it will handle the bass for you.

EDIT: did not see you thought of this sorry, but this is the normal way to handle this. Did you set the sound in windows sound control panel to 2 as well when trying the separated signals?
