Hi, i've just built a second computer from an old computer and some parts. It's been a few years since i last built a computer but i'm fairly certain they are compatable. I tried to install windows 7 on it 2 days ago and i've still not managed to complete an install.
The first attempt took 8 hours fo the install to get to the "completing installation" step, sat there for about an hour before going to bed, when i got up the pc had turned itself off and when i sta
rted it i was getting an error
"The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered and unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and the restart installation."
after some searching found a post about editing the registery to continue the install. i tried this, set up continued but after an hour went to a black screen with a cursor and never changed.
Second attempt - reformated the drive and started a fresh install. took 11 hours to get to the part where you set the network and date/time ect. Was running so slowly that it was taking 6 seconds to change the years i.e. 2009 to 2010. And took 11 mins to switch between each page and was like it wasn't clearing the old page first. I could see the page about entering a username under the boxes for entering a password
It's now been sitting on the blueish windows image ( the one with the swirly lines and vine thingy ) for an hour. i have a white arrow cursor that i can move but nothing else.
The install disk is fine, i used it to install on my other computer 2 days ago and it took about 45 mins total. i'm fairly certain all the parts are fine, memory and hard drives came out a working computer 2 days ago.
I've searched and found things about changing a bios setting to ahci but i dont have that, only thing that looks similar is a. setting to change between raid and sata2.
I'm at a loss what else to do
