Solved Trouble installing Windows 7 on New PC

I just built a new PC and am having trouble installing Windows 7. It loads the disc (says Windows is loading files) then on the blue screen where it says setup is loading, the PC just restarts. I have two discs I tried and two cd drives (1 blu-ray, 1 normal), same thing on each. It has a 8 core AMD CPU, 32 GB RAM, 2 HHD 1 SSD, GTX 760 video card, 900 Watt PSU. It s very late here at the moment so I have not yet tried with just 16 GB of RAM but I could use some input. Motherboard is ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z ATX AMD Gaming Motherboard with 3-Way SLI/CrossFireX Support and UEFI BIOS - Newegg.com

Windows will reboot on a hard error. It could be anything. Sounds like a process of elimination type diagnostic drill. Unplug everything you don't need until it boots and stays up. Go from there.

I tried with just 16 GB RAM, still restarts at the screen where it says setup is loading. I've never seen this problem before so I have no idea what could be making it restart randomly. I have to go out soon but would appreciate anyone else's input. I'll attempt again when I get back.

Test your RAM as shown in RAM - Test with Memtest86+.

Swap sticks. Try install with each stick.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals as suggested.

Where did you get Win7 and how is the disk burned? Try flash stick install from Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 Steps 1 and 2.

As the ASUS MOBO's has a uEFI/BIOS firmware.

I have installed Windows 7 in a UEFI BIOS plenty of times, but they all worked. After changing RAM issue is still there. Will try with other things unplugged.

After unplugging pretty much everything except the things needed (1 SSD, 1 disc drive, video card) I got through to the setup screen and can format my drive, but now it says a warning when trying ti install to the SSD "Windows cannot be installed on this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer bios menu." This is the most frustrating install I have ever done.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. (With an EFI BIOS you'll need to decide if you want UEFI BIOS vs. Legacy BIOS. If UEFI follow these special steps for Install, otherwise enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module to proceed with normal install.) Set DVD drive first to boot, HD second, set SATA controller to AHCI, Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into Windows 7 installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here. If DVD installs continues to fail, try a new ISO, new DVD and then Flash stick install.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10, or enter System Recovery Options to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

If install fails after all of these steps then test the HD with maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan, followed by Disk Check from installer's Command Line accessed by pressing Shift + F10 at first screen.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

After install you can adjust partition size or Create new partitions for data, etc. in Disk Mgmt. You are creating the partition here for the purpose of wiping the HD and marking Active which overcomes certain install failures.

PC was set to ACHI and did not work. After changing it to IDE it was able to install. Am now installing drivers and such. So far so good for now. Thanks for the help guys and ill post again if things start to act up again.

If that's the case then it should not have said it. Anyways, after putting it to IDE I could install and right now the PC seems to be stable (minus 1 hang during windows update but you know how great they are ). I will be marking this solved for now and should something else come up post a new thread. Thanks again for all the help guys!
