Hi everybody
Need some help, please. I am running xp sp 3 on my first hdd, I successfully installed win 7 on my second hdd. Worked just fine for about 2-3 months - at start-up I had to select which os to boot from , then, my mistake, I managed to crush down win 7 . Ever since I tried to format the second hdd and reinstall win 7, but I can't get it to an end. Everything is running smoothly until it finishes and then , when it tries to boot, I get to choose between xp and 3 copies of win 7. No matter what icon of win 7 I choose, I get an error message and everything stops here, so I am stuck on my old xp. Any suggestion would be welcome.
Thank you all and I wish you all the best.

Since my last post I tried again to install win7 and this time I succeeded, it went all the way to the end, but it gave me something else to keep me busy through the night: - in win xp, I got c: (containing xp) , d: and e: drives on hdd1 and f: (containing win 7) and g: drives on hdd2;
- in win 7, c: drive contains win7 system, d: contains win xp, e:, f: and g: are unchanged
I'm going slightly mad !!!!! ????
Do you thing there is something else to be done with my piece of junk, other then build a nice camp fire and invite you all to join?
Please excuse my English, I'm not a native English speaker
Thank you very much for your concern wish you the best

When you boot from a Win7 DVD, the first chance you have to input info is at a screen with 3 boxes giving such things as time or whatever.

What makes your life simple here is that Win7 install has halted and also before its even tried to do anything.

If at this time you press the SHift-F10 combo, then you will get a good old familiar DOS prompt, and it probably show X:\Sources as being the current directory.

Here you can use DISKPART.

DISKPART is a very powerful disk partitioning and more command.

DISKPART /? will show help.

after typing diskpart,
then LIST DISK whill show disks and you can then use SELECT DISK to select a particular disk if you have more than one.

If you want to simply start afresh as if you had a complety empty disk, then use
CLEAN as the diskpart command.

You exit from DISKPRT with EXIT
You exit from the command prompt with a second EXIT

I know this is a little short of details but it works.
You might want to follow up, before exiting with a Create Partition Primary, Select Partition, format fs=ntfs

You can also if you want to wait for a long time, instead of using CLEAN using CLEAN ALL Now you would have a truly blank disk.

Incidentally, if you need to wipe a disk before abandoning a computer, CLEAN ALL is sufficient.

Enough rambling,
ciao

Also have an Asus ha1002xp netbook with Win 7 Ultimate installed.
Perhaps what would be best at this point is to let us see a screenshot of Disk management drive map, using Snipping Tool in Start menu, attach file using paper clip in reply box.
