I am having trouble unzipping files. I have Pzip and 7zip on my computer. I am pretty computer savvy and I even bought the newest WinZip. However, I don't like the way it works.

Can anybody give me some tips? I am trying "extract" or "open archive" but I seem to be losing the resulting files.

Thanks much in advance.

When you run WinZip, and you try to open or extract an archive, what exactly happens?

Does it show you which folder it is trying to put the extracted files in? It should try to put them either in the same folder as the archive, or it should create a folder within that folder, putting the extracted files one level deeper. Either that, or it should let you decide where you want them to be extracted to. Is this happening?

There will be a temp folder somewhere under C:\Users\<yourname>\AppData\Local\..., and the temp folder will likely contain a copy of the files you tried to extract out of the zip archive.

Two caveats:
* AppData is a hidden folder, so you need to type it in manually rather than browsing to it.
* There is a Local folder, a LocalLow folder, and a Roaming folder. So substitute one of the other names for "Local" to search further.

Windows Explorer can open up a zip file. Try opening the zip archive in Explorer.
