Hello! I've run into a problem when trying to install W7 RC build 7100 x64 on my computer.

I use one hard drive at the moment on which I have two partitions:

- One with WinXP Pro SP3 installed
- One that I've made for the purpose of installing W7 on.

I've tried burning the ISO gotten from Microsoft three times to different DVDs (each time downloading the ISO fresh again) and also tried making a bootdisk out of my USB-stick (using the same ISO) and with all of them I've gotten to the same state of the install:

It seems like it's booting correctly from the DVD/install stick and the screen with the progress bar with "windows loading files" fills up correctly and then I get to the splash screen. Then I get the blue background of the windows installer program and the cursor appears and is correctly movable. Then nothing else happens. It just stops there. With the blue background and a cursor.

If it helps, I've also tried starting the install for the x86 version and it stops at the same spot.

I've tried updating the mobo BIOS to latest version, tried looking through the BIOS after some kind of setting that could perhaps set off the problem. The only thing I could think of that could effect it was the SATA AHCI which I've tried to boot the installation with both turned on and off.

I hope that I've made some kind of total newbie mistake that can easily be corrected. I hopefully await any tips or further questions you might have in order to help me solve the problem.

Dont think its a newbie mistake. sometimes a vid driver will cause that what vid card?

I stand in awe at the fast response. Kudos for that.

I'm sitting with a Sapphire Radeon 4850 Toxic edition (slightly overclocked out-of-the-box with a different cooler).

Ok do you know where to get the correct driver for either win 7 or vista and 32 bit or 64?

The other thing I was think abt while writing this and I cant get back to check is if you upgraded your BIOS. those are the 2 most frequent causes for that problem

I have subscribed to this thread so anytime someone posts to it I will get email and jump back in. Been at this for 15 hours and need a pit stop. there are others luking who actually may know more abt this than I do and im sure they will pop in from time to time.

Hope this helps point you in the right direction

Yeah, I've upgraded my BIOS to latest version. And yeah, I know where to get the latest drivers for my card. What I'm not sure about though is what drivers to get. There are drivers for Vista-32, Vista-64, Win7-32 and Win7-64.

My guess is that I want the driver for Win7 64bit but that shouldnt work installing in XP32 environment which is the only working environment I have on my computer at the moment.

And I thank you again for the help.

I have another one out of left field.. In looking at your setup I noticed (besides how nice it is) that you have 8 gigs of ram. Sometimes you may need to install with only 1-2 gigs to keep it from hanging. I saw that 3x this week.the other thing is if your mobo has a nax memory, and # of cpu's check boxes in bios they need to be unchecked

I haven't put the extra 4 gigs yet though. Bought them yesterday and figured I'd try getting W7 up and running before adding new components. Do you think 4 gigs would be too much too?

And when it come to your last sentence there, I'm kinda left at a blank. What is a nax memory and what settings would be needed for me to uncheck? Pardon my lack of knowledge.

Ok first my typo I kind of like nax memory, it most newer mobo bios it has a check to "use xxxx memory ( that usually set to max) as long as its unchecked thats what you want.

The is also a number of cpu's box just uncheck it.

We also need to consider the ISO image, where did you get it, and what speed was it burned at. things like that

I've looked through the entire BIOS menus and I can't seem to find anything similar to what you mentioned.

When it comes to the images I downloaded them all from microsoft's homepage. When the first install dvd failed, I looked at the forums for solutions and then made sure to follow recommendations such as using slowest possible burn speed and so on when i made the others two.

But the ISO supplied by microsoft should be okay, right? I made sure to download it again each time I burned it to DVD to make sure that it didnt suffer from download corruption.

Sorry your problem hasn't been cured yet. Just stopping back in to see what was suggested overnight. I cant access your specs while Im writing this so these may sound well dumb. SO there wasn't anything in BIOS, and you are going to check the ram. Your keyboard and mouse are wireless not bluetooth right?

Let me read thru the thread again

Ken

Edit for thought. Have you tried installing with the raid card out?

Mornin, Ken. Hope you got a well deserved good nights sleep.

Yeah, couldnt seem to find any settings concerning max memory or number of CPUs.

My keyboard and mouse are both wire bound, USB though. That shouldnt be causing any troubles, right?

I'm going to try with one of the memory units taken out as soon as I get the chance to.

Is there any chance by the way that installing build 7264 might work better than the 7100?

Just as it gets past the black screens with grey bars of "windows loading files" and then the splash screen. After that comes a blue-ish background and the cursor appears. Then nothing else. I can still move the mouse. I've let the computer be for the longest about maybe 3-4 hours, with it remaining the same; just the background and a movable mouse cursor.

And no, I don't find you rude or anything. Very greatful that you people are trying to help me solve my problem.

Ok well i had the same issue till just recently,On installs it use to take 5-10 mins for each of the very first setup screens to appear (i.e. to select language and what Drive.)I found that in my BIOS if i disable (Lagacy diskette A)in other words the A drive Floppy or whatever it is called on your system, I get through the first setup screens and into Expanding files within 30sec's - 1 1/2 mins. I personally dont use a Floppy drive anyway dont know about you, But you can Re enamble it after you complete the install.

This made my installs alot faster however everyones Rig is different so what works for some may not work for others however i gave the same advice to another member on here in PM he went straight into his BIOS disabled floppy drive and Bam he gets from the "windows is Loading" screens to "Expanding Files" in the matter of 1 minute, Same as me.
