I decided to wipe my hard drive and reinstall everything. So i have two sets of repair disks, and i have two disks in each set. Im using one of them right now. I dont know if this is how it's supposed to go,

Basically went through the language button and picked the first option to put it on the first partition (i just picked one option). Anyway so it loads up you have a desktop, and then when you get to the desktop its has cmd on and then it tells you that factory installation is going on dont touch it and what not. Then says configuring stuff and it restarts. And its keeping on restarting and doing that over and over again. Why isnt it asking for the second disk?, is it supposed to take this long?, did i do it wrong?, and should i try using the other set of disks instead?

Using asus windows 7

Ps. I dont know if this means its working but the graphics are much better now even though it's still restarting and continuing to do that... does that mean its doing what its supposed to?

Did you make the repair disks yourself? How can we know what is what.... you made them yourself. Next time make documentation or write down what is what.

How did you wipe the disk?

I made the disks myself. The first was when it was brand new and it makes you make repair disk/back-up etc. The second was made some time afterwards like when it tells you to make a back-up. So essentially i have two sets, they were just made at two different points in time.

Second question-
i was gonna go about it through diskpart and select disk # and clear all, However i only had one disk# and it wouldnt let me. Soo i just put the repair disk in and hit F9-12 didnt know which it would be, anyway ran the repair disk. It said it would set it to factory settings. I think im just gonna wait it out guess i was being impatient and wanted it ta-ta-ta-Today Junyahh!!

The REcovery disks you made reinstall the factory bloatware which is a grossly inferior install of the best OS ever, larded with poorly written crapware and utilities that conflict with better versions built into the OS.

For that reason most tech enthusiasts prefer to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.
Look over the steps to see if it interests you and ask back any questions. We will help you get it perfect.

Oooh that looks interesting! (so far, still reading..)
My reinstall finished! (the original one not the one you mentioned ^). So it works. Its asking me to make another backup copy :p lol I have a curious question though... if it the backup disks were created as 2 of them why did it only use one to reinstall it....?

The other disk may have drivers and software on it. If you look through All Programs or Control Panel>Programs and Features and you don't see a bunch of Asus crapware then you may have gotten away with a cleaner Recovery than usual. You can check it over with Clean Up Factory Bloatware.

The standard for WIn7 is never hangs, bogs or slows on adequate hardware. If it does then I'd def do a Clean Install, which gives you the best WIn7 you can have.

Greg is probably right, perhaps it put some of the oem bloat on the second disc.

It installed some stuff which are highlighted in orange like Asus utility, Best-buy, and Intel stuff...

So if i wanted a clean version do you what would be the best thing to do - reinstalling it like you said in the first post or cleaning the factory bloatware. Would be essentially the same thing? Or would reinstalling it just be more updated?

Cleaning up Factory Bloatware no matter how thoroughly will never equal a Clean Reinstall which if you stick with the steps ends up with a perfect install better than all others.

Even if completely successful Cleaning up Factory Bloatware will at most only regain about 80% of Windows 7's perfect native performance. There is too much insult to the OS by the poorly written crapware which on Asus is some of the worst, notwithstanding their excellent hardware.

Well then yall will have to help me with the steps :)

Is it alright if i use one post to add on questions or should i just put them in new posts?

will they get updated by using LiveUpdate or will you have to manually install them?

3. What do you do after you "Run an audit of hardware and software including installed Product Keys using Belarc Advisor." Why do you do this and what is it for? How do you save the information, and why do you need it?
4. Regarding
7. Gather your program installers. For those lacking disks, you may find them on the program's Support Downloads webpage. Favorite pre-installed apps may be found on the Downloads webpage for your model computer or manufacturer-provided Apps Disk. Others may be found by googling. Some pre-installed apps may not be available for clean reinstall - HP owners see additional note at bottom.
● Many of the favorite apps needed and desired for reinstall are available in the terrific app Ninite - Install or Update Multiple Apps at Once.

● Just in case, save in advance your Wireless or Ethernet LAN (wired) driver on flash stick, CD or in your backup so you can install it to get online quickly - these can be found on the Support Downloads webpage for your model PC.

-does this mean that the wireless/ethernet lan drivers will not be installed using the iso? What other drivers would one have to save separately? Also where do you find the drivers and how do you save them on to a flash stick or CD?

5. I dont know if these things are considered Bloatware or whatnot, but all the stuff in Asus Utility folder, will that not be part of the new installation? Will i have to somehow get those programs, like Asus liveupdate, and asus secure delete, and asus virtual camera etc. onto a usb and how would i do that, all the stuff in the folder are shortcuts.

there will be more questions...later

The problem with editing posts is nobody gets updated about new content, if you have new questions before someone responds editing is fine otherwise you may as well post a new post.

will they get updated by using LiveUpdate or will you have to manually install them?

If you want to update the WIn7 installer to what it should be if we had a SP2 then you can use that, but it will probably take as long as getting them via Important and Optional Windows Updates on a single install.

Considering I have to main links to read and one of them is for OEM Windows 7 clean install and the other is just Windows 7 clean install, whats the difference?

The OEM reinstall tutorial compiles many tips for preparation and setup while the Clean Install tutorial provides illustrated steps for the actual install itself.

What do you do after you "Run an audit of hardware and software including installed Product Keys using Belarc Advisor." Why do you do this and what is it for? How do you save the information, and why do you need it?

It's mainly used to audit software product Keys like Office or other paid software so you don't lose them with the reinstall. It also gives you a complete audit of your hardware including BIOS version and other installed hardware. I print it using XPS Document printer to a file in the backup for reference if needed. It's optional.

-What does it mean to gather your installers?

As it says in the tutorial, you should put your network driver in the backup in case the installer doesn't provide it, so you can install it to get online to enable
Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) and then run all rounds of Important and Optional WIndows Updates, with requested reboots, until there are no more offered when you Check for Updates. This should provide most drivers as well as important patches for Performance and Security. Any drivers then missing in Device Manager can be found using the methods spelled out in the tutorial.

Determine which programs you use like Office, Skype, Itunes, etc. and gather those installers you have on disk or in backup. You can also go to their website from the new install to download and install them. Put them in the Downloads folder so you have a backup of your installers.

These questions about which bloatware to reimport are answered in the tutorial. After all Updates, supply any missing drivers as it explains how to do. Then install your programs slowly with space between each to monitor any performance changes. Take notice of any features that you rely upon which are missing, e.g. backlighting, function keys, cam software you need beyond a driver, etc. Then you can reimport that specific software from the Asus Support Downloads webpage for your model. This is all explained in the tutorial, including how to gauge if you need patches and other downloads from Asus. You should judge this by performance after install.

6. What things will not be on the ISO?
there will be more questions...later

What will not be on the ISO are your programs that you want, Flash Player, some drivers provided by WIndows Update or needing importation from Asus website per the tutorial, and possibly some Asus software for functions you notice are not working fully and which you rely upon.
