Troubles with Toshiba's

Have found a really good site for anyone who regularly has to deal with Toshiba laptops as I do nicely set out with clear concise pictures and info on the different steps.

I am guessing it will not deal with all the models but there are more than enough to get one through. A top find.

I thought I would just update anyone who is interested just in case you hadn't found out - you probably know already - I took my own A200 apart this pm to clean the cooling system and those ribbon connectors - on some there are small black tabs that need pulling outwards to unlock the ribbon end from the socket.

The ribbon will just pull out but getting it back in is a real pain and releasing those black lock tabs well say no more! If I had known about those tabs it would have been easier to get the ribbon cable out too and minimise the risk of tearing it eh?
I didn't find this until reassembly and was getting real frustrated trying to connect the ribbon cable from the KB into the mobo socket and that small graphics card as well, and just wondered what they were as I didn't see any mentioned in that site re doing that .
Anyway see pics to see the tabs on the ribbon connectors.

Indeed it is a great site. I stumbled across it a while back when looking to replace a dc-jack which had come adrift in an L300. The guide helped me disassemble the machine to get at it.

Those connectors are called Zif (zero insertion force) connectors and once you figure out how to open and close them, it is easy to remove and replace those pretty delicate ribbon cables.

Another site I have found very useful for tackling repairs is

Jeez thanks Ashley thats great mate I am getting more lappys then desktops now (I only do it as a hobby and getting ready for retirement and my biking days have been cut short by a prospecting accident) and those refs will come in real handy.

I'll keep you im mind if I come across any curly ones

No worries John. Sounds like we are going down very similar paths.
A few years back, I used to swear when I got a laptop come in - I mean the real machines were desktops weren't they? However I've gotten to like them and the only desktops I get to service/support now are the old XP machines.

Now I'm getting people coming along wanting their iPods and tablets set up!

Just as well I'm always up for a challenge. It keeps you young.

Well Ashley I am definitely a desky person - laptops acceptable and useful for taking to work (night duty) and emragencies but those Androyzombiepods like facebook, twatter , and anything Apple are the work of the devil.
In fact most of the laptops I see are wrecked through that wretched stuff and mate if you can't get your hands in it - it aint worth having. My son has done the backflip after building $3K rig uses a a pad or tablet or whatever you call them and hey actually having to touch the screen makes me feel ill - you never know whats been on it LOL!!
