I hooked the printer up directly to my laptop, which now has Windows 7, to get the driver, and then back to the original machine, xp pro. When I try to connect to the network printer with my w7 machine I get the 0x000003e3 error. Any ideas?

why not download and install the software manually without hooking it up to the laptop?

Your error is a driver error bsod

Since you did it this way, windows may have become confused and is thinking to look for that printer on that port it was installed/connected.

Even when you switch ports locally for a printer, ie; a different usb port, windows will still go thru asking for software/driver, although it will most likely install the driver again automatically cause it resides on the HD /drivers. But it still has to install again to remap itself (IRQ)...

Installing the software (vista version if thats all avail)should fix the problem. once thats done then explore the network for the printer, if shared, it should show up and work for you then

This error could be resolved by updating printer driver on the server PC
