Trying to find archives of forums

Hi everyone

I was hopeful that someone might be able to help men out here. I am trying to find archived pages of a couple of internet boards (forums), but when I go to 'way back machine' and others, I get a message that that site can not be crawled due to robots.txt

Does anyone know of any other way to find archived forum pages?

The site is completely safe - its one of the largest music forums on the web, and has ben around for over a decade.

Anyone else have a possible suggestion? Thanks!

Sorry that I was not clear.

The music forum site is safe. Those that run (or ran?) that forum put a robot.txt file in place. That tells automated tools not to gather the info inside the forum. This is done for various reasons (privacy, bandwidth, intellectual property issues...).

The staff that runs the wayback machine respects those robot.txt files. In my mind, that improves their reputation.


If I'm understanding you question correctly, you asked if there were a website (other than the wayback machine) which might have archived the music forum that you are interested in. My reply was meant to convey: any website that does not respect robot.txt files is not a respectable website. Such websites might not be safe to visit.


To put it another way:
The music forum does not have its own archive or you cannot get to it. Therefore, you want to access an archive that was made by people that have nothing to do with running the music forum. Just like the wayback machine archives this forum. The people that run the wayback machine are not the same people that run this forum. You can trust the people that operate the wayback machine website (on some level) - since they respect robot.txt files. You trust the staff at the music forum. Great! But that has nothing to do with trusting or not trusting the staff of the website that you are asking us to send you to (e.g. some website run by people with questionable ethics).

Ah, ok - I understand what you were trying to say now.

TBH, I am not really concerned. I use my laptop for such things, where I A/V running, and have no important data. Worse case, if something were to happen, I would just restore the Acronis image I have.

Still looking to see if there is a way to find such a thing as listed earlier.... anyone have any ideas?
