Hi I have several computers that will not allow me to open any Word or Excel documents or open the programs themselves. If I do a system restore to a point roughly a week ago, those programs will open without any issues.
So does anyone know how I can compare two system restore points to see what has changed between them so I can narrow down what is causing my issue?
Look for a "scan for affected programs" at the lower right on the screen where you choose the desired restore point.
I don't know of any other direct way of comparing restore points, though I'd guess it's possible if you drill into the right location and know what to look for.

If you right click on an excel or word document, select properties and see what is listed as the default file type association, there is a Change button, click it and browse to the proper program to make it the default file handler....

Navigate to the drive letter for your first mounted restore point and right click. Choose Winmerge from the context menu and choose to include subfolders. Then from the Winmerge GUI browse to your second mounted restore point in order to compare it with the first.
However there are likely to be a huge number of differences to sift through!
