1/ have 2 pc : you can run the 16bit software on a basic xp with minimal hardware and the 64bit os on a beefed one and use remote desktop + network shared folders
2/ run the 64bit OS on a beefed windows 7 with windows virtual PC from microsoft installed and windows XP mode set to run your old software (I do this to run my very old canon lide 2.0 canoscan)
