trying to install diail up software problem.

hello. am trying to install a conexant software for my dial up mode but every time i try it says driver installation failed. could not find modem device for this driver. what does that mean and how can i get past that. am using windows xp and i have a compaq presario v5000.
am trying to install it under win2k_xp which am assuming is the right one for windows xp. 32 bit.
