Trying to install XP after I was installing Windows 7

i was trying to install windows xp after i was installing windows 7 . i shrink a partition and after i rebbot the computer when i was starting to format the partion the hard drive was empty all my partition was gone , my hardrive was empty , only the new partion that i want to install xp is showing. i reboot the computer without the install and the computer doesen"t boot.i put the hard drive in another computer and i said that the hard drive it isn"t allocated. i want all my data back
any sollutions?

Installing XP after Win 7 can cause some problems, but it sounds you did not get that far.

Were you following the tutorial to set up the partitions?

Did you use Disk Management to shrink the partition and how big was it and how much did you shrink it?

Did you ever tell any thing to format, and are the partitions different sizes so you can tell which one is which? I suppose you were looking at the partitions during the XP install and it only showed the one partition?

so , the partition that i was shrinking was 160 gb , and i toke it 5 gb from her with disk management. i was lefting the 5 gb as a free space , i put the xp cd , reboot an start the computer. a boot from the cd and i was shooing all the partition. i select de free space (5gb) an try to format , then all the partitions gone and only the 5 gb partition was showing , all the rest of the space appares as a free space unpartitioned
later edit : i did""n use the command to format or to delete other partition , and no progress bar was showing on the screen

I am guessing you would like to get Win 7 back. To try to do that, the first thing you should do is to boot to the install DVD. After you choose your language, on the next page, select Repair on the lower left of the window.

When you you select repair, a screen will come up and possibly do some repairs, if it asks, allow the repairs. Then you will probably need to run the Startup Repair at least 2 more times to get Win 7 Back.

I am still a little confused about you situation since you say the Win 7 partition was no longer there. If the install is still there, the repair will find it as ask if that is the one you want to repair.

There are tutorials here about how to do this so you might check those. Post back when you have tried the startup repair

If you reinstalled, are you in Win 7 now and can you attach a snipping tool picture of your disk management window? You can start disk management by typing diskmgmt.msc in the search box on the start menu.

when i put the program to recover the data i see all my data are intact in the hard drive, all the folder all the files are intact , in disk management say that the gb''s on the hard drive are unnallocated. so this is what i done , i recover the data to another hard drive , format the hard drive , installed the win 7 again and copy the data back to my hard drive. the recovery was made with another computer
