Solved Trying to put a little zip in my grandpa computer

Grandpa specs.

1. Corsair AX-850
2. P6X58D-E Asus
3. Kingston 2000 ram 12 gigs @1400
4. Intel i7-960 @4.0
5. MSI GeForce GTX-460/OC 1gig physical memory.

This is what I have now.

That price for 4 gigs and the rest of the specs seem crazy.

I have also had good luck with MSI. The one I'm using is abot 5 years old.

ASUS I saw going through the rabbit hole of other items viewed was a interesting one but was only 2gb but dual fans so the cooling should be there

I like this one better
It has a 6 pin power connector for real power aside from the mother board
Also has 1024mb's cuda cores

Both memory are 128 bit the clocks though are way better on the above for just a tad more and evga does not charge tax

This has a rebate, but I never even consider rebates when purchasing anything. I`d never cut the UPC off the box anyway :roflmao:

Yep I believe you'll get more performance from either 1024 cuda cores than the GT's 385 cuda cores any day of the week
Even though they are 2gb memory they will perform much better and probably be silent

I let my Intel Dealer get it from where ever he thinks best. Normally it's a warehouse he normally does business with if the price is close.
When I buy from my dealer I have to pay sales tax.
When I buy from my dealer I don't have to worry if something goes wrong. He takes care of all that shipping back and forth and all the phone calls and emails.

I do it the old fashion way.
1. I call him and order any thing. Computer parts, cables, adapters, cameras, what ever.
2. He gets it and brings it to my house.
3. I pay him cash.

One stop shopping for anything electronic because he deals with several warehouses.
Been doing business with these people around 15 years and never had a problem they didn't take care of.
I had a Intel SSD go bad. It was the power port connection.
He picked it up at my house and a week later brought me a new one to my house at no cost to me.
When I had a Asus motherboard go bad. He picked it up and worked with Asus and got things fixed. Delivered the mother board back to my home. Watch me hook everything up and verified ever thing worked. This took some time and their was no charge to me.

I pay a little more for some products but it's worth it to me because of the great service the old fashion way.

I believe they both soak up the same amount of power
The GT just gets all of it's via the board

So unless you have space issues is the only real reason I can see where the GT would be a preference :/

Remember folks I'm not a gamer.
I have plenty of power supply. I have 18 in. in my case for length to play with. A Corsair 600t with drive bays removed. My motherboard does not have PCI 3.0 just PCI 2.0.Express X 16.
But now you got me thinking. Damn it hurts.

Keep posting because I'm going to order something tomorrow.

I do like the idea of getting the power away from the motherboard.
I have no problem using 6 pin or 8 pin off the power supply. The AX-850 comes with the cables.

The other issue being space if that's not an issue I do not see any reason for the GT
Cuda cores alone will rule not the total memory it has
2gb memory with 1gb cuda core will be as good for the price as one can get

The only thing better is twice the cuda cores and twice the memory
But of course that will cost twice as much

Grabbed this off the link you posted of the card you now have

GF104 GPU, 336 CUDA cores, Core clock 725MHz, Shader clock 1350MHz, 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 memory at 3600MHz. 2x DVI-I + mini-HDMI

That is a 256bit card
So all of what has been posted are 128bit cards
The biggest differences are cuda cores and even the GT will not be much of an improvement if any it only has a slight more cuda cores I believe 50 more but 128bit so I don't see any gains with it at all :/

The only gains are in the gtx models

The 950 is closer to the money I want to spend on the old Grandpa computer.
Because I not a gamer I don't think I will notice any difference in the two.
Quiet is good.

Okay I'm talked into a GTX.
Now I'm down to a GTX 950 or a GTX 960.

My budget is shot in the back side. How about this one. Who knows I might become a gamer.
