I am trying to replace authui to customise the Logon Screen to my liking.

I tried changing some images which control some button images such as Cancel in the CTRL+ALT+DEL screen.

Using Restorator or Resource Hacker to replace it, still gives the same (black screen without mouse usage)

Here are the images I am trying to add in my authui:
View attachment Custom Buttons.zip

And here is the authui I am trying to add the images to:
View attachment authui.zip

If anyone can help me successfully replace the files without any errors or add the images into the .dll for me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Try these, you need to change in both C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64

Hey Bongo, didn't work, still getting a black screen with only a mouse being active.

I think it may be how the jpg's are compressed/formatted or have transparency or something, I really don't know :S

Well, what would be the best solution to convert them to jpg, is Paint enough?

You want .bmp not .jpg, use gimp to edit the images then save as .bmp.

View attachment 274790

And here is the authui I am trying to add the images to:
View attachment 274791

If anyone can help me successfully replace the files without any errors or add the images into the .dll for me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Could you tell me how you got passed the black screen? I've got the exakt same problem with my login screen after replacing the authui file. I've tried restarting in safe mode to replace with the default dll file but the same black screen keeps showing after the win7 logo so i can't go further than that.
I was considering downloading and installing linux to the computer and from there access my win 7 files but if there's an easier option i'd love to hear it.

Welcome to the Seven Forums

You don't even have to install linux most of them come with an option where you can try it without installing it, it runs off of the ram and then you can access your Windows 7 files I've done that many times.

You might want to try this first http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/139810-sfc-scannow-run-command-prompt-boot.html it will not harm any data or programs you have installed it will try to find and repair any corrupt system files that you have. You may need to do this up to 3 times with a reboot after each scan.
