Hi all,
Im hoping you can help.

My laptop died but the HDD was okay. I've taken the laptop HDD out, bought an USB/caddy for it and attached it to another laptop as an external drive.

The trouble is the new machine sees the external drive, but all its seeing is system reserved and the reserved part of the HDD is tiny. So its not the total drive size and defintley not the data I need to rescue.

How would I see the whole drive and access the data? Like a fool I havent backed up and its got all our new baby photos.

I'd be really greatfull if someone could help and give me some advice. Im not sure if its related but we did have Acronis running on the dead machine? Is that responsible for the partion perhaps?

Thanks in anticipation of any help
Phil

By booting with this linux distribution, you should be able to access the entire drive.

The System Reserved partition is the boot partition for Win7. You need to locate the C OS partition to find your files.

If the rescue cd Carolyn linked doesn't see the partition and files, try using the Win7 DVD or Repair CD with this method: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

If you don't have a Win7 DVD or Repair CD try free Paragon Rescue CD: Paragon rescue disk; change drive letter; recover data

If none of these rescue methods see the data, then burn to CD and boot free Partition Wizard bootable CD, run the Partition Recovery Wizard to see if it can find the partition and recover it. Partition Wizard

If this fails, try the PW Data Recovery Wizard or Recuva data recovery freeware: Recuva - Features
