trying to share root drive on network

im trying to share the root of my F: drive via homegroup but by the looks of it security reasons it wont let me, is there a way around the security?
these are my own 2 home pc's not public

im trying to share the root of my F: drive via homegroup but by the looks of it security reasons it wont let me, is there a way around the security?
these are my own 2 home pc's not public

Homegroups isn't really set up to share the root of the drive.

From the root of the C: drive, You need to use the NTFS Security Permissions for this plus some adjustments are required from the Sharing tab as well.

The following link explains how to share from the root of the C drive. :)

thanks for the reply chev65 ive tried that adding permissions for everyone but the option to share the root of my F drive is still greyed out
i presume you mean the root of F: drive if its F i want to share the root of and not C:?

If it won't mess things up by changing paths, I found the easiest way to share all contents on a drive on Vista and later is to create a new folder, drag all other folders into it, then share that folder. It worked well for data drives in USB docking stations. Also most programs on the drive would still run provided they were portable.

i presume you mean the root of F: drive if its F i want to share the root of and not C:?

If the permissions are greyed out then at some point the permissions were changed from the default which usually isn't good.
