Hi people,

So I've been trying to upgrade to Windows 10 but the errors (possible BSODs, I saw one for sure but I get no dumps from them) coming up during installation makes me feel like it's finally time to fix my drivers. I get BSODs every 3 weeks or something (not sure what I'm doing at the time), I've got issues with my audio interface garbling my audio, and putting my PC to sleep seems to put it in a state where I can't wake it or do anything but turn it off at the power. I've reinstalled the drivers for graphics and audio in the past but to no avail. I'm just a bit lost not knowing what's a problem and what's a symptom of a different problem

I've been running the Driver Verifier with no peripherals besides mouse and keyboard. Turning off all Microsoft drivers brings up a BSOD during windows startup pointing to rskernelengine.sys. I'm not sure if it counts as a Microsoft driver as well, so when I don't test that one too I get the same BSOD but this time pointing to hidclass.sys which is a Microsoft driver. I've kept trying different drivers but they all result in a crash on start-up even if I test one driver, always giving BSODs with a IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error and no dump. The random crashes I've got in the past usually point to ntoskrnl.exe (example of one is dump 092020-110355-01).

Just fyi, Windows Memory Diagnostic has come up with nothing, and <sfc /scannow> in cmd comes up with no issues as well. I know I could try a clean install of Windows 10, but the prospect of redownloading all my programs I'm finding very unappealing.

Thanks.

Welcome to Sevenforums!

Not a BSOD expert but I'll see if I can help you.

Have you run sfc/ scannow from administrative command prompt to check and repair/replace corrupt/missing system files?

Have you checked all your devices for :warn: & driver updates in Device Manager?

Snick

My drivers are all fixed now and I shouldn't be getting any more blue screens thanks to the people at sysnative (Go here to see how we fixed it.), but Win10 compatibility might be the next thing to worry about.

I hadn't even thought about my motherboard being too outdated, I'll try with the USB3 port drivers, thanks torchwood.

Oh, and fixing the drivers cured the Sleep crash so hallelujah.

Not getting anywhere with USB drivers, don't seem to have any newer versions and even uninstalling them before upgrading doesn't work. I updated my BIOS as well but there were no changes. I just found SetupDiag released by Microsoft to help with upgrade issues, but it didn't find anything.

EDIT: Tell me if I should start a new thread for this, the topic's changed a bit now

Trying to upgrade Win7 to Win10 without success?

If so, run Microsoft System Upgrade Readiness Tool x64, & post CheckSUR.log it is temporary in its original location: C/Windows/Logs/CBS

Or I have automated it to place a copy of the CBS Folder on your desktop when it's done running.
From my OneDrive AutoSURTx64.exe

I notice the log mentions Avast a lot. If this is referencing the antivirus software it must still be on my PC after I uninstalled it.

EDIT: I just used avastclear.exe to try and get rid of the files, SURT logs come out the same after using it.

Did you run AvastClear from Safe Mode? I believe that is the recommended instruction to clear the CSI C Mark Deployment Missing errors SURT CheckSUR.log reported. When you try to run AvastClear it should prompt you to go to safe mode. Did it! I believe I ran it 2 times from safe mode. Was a couple years ago, if I recall clearing the errors like that.

Those errors should not prevent you from in place upgrading Win7 to Win10 however. If you did try, how did you obtain Win10? Win Media Creation Tool?

I have a valid win10 ISO if you need to borrow/download it. I can upload to my OneDrive and post a link if you wish.

Tried this too & it worked, I reinstalled Avast, then uninstalled it through Revo Uninstaller, then Revo in advanced mode. By default Revo creates a restore point and registry backup! ;)

Don't know if you are aware, most program uninstallers don't remove everything they installed, some leave a few and some leave a plethora of residuals.

You can reinstall Avast, default settings, with -> Ninite Avast one click Installer.
Here's Ninite Website link. Have a look around, quite a few free programs. I use Ninite quite a bit to batch install programs!

Remember reading on Avast forum specific instruction for AvastClear and procedures. I'll do a bit of Googling and see what I find.

Tummy growling, 8:30 pm here is SW Detroit Suburbs. Gonna' eat then search a bit for the avast instructions.

Half way up the stairs, remembered FRSTx64 can be used too. Yes, can do that too!
There is an excellent tutorial on using FRST. I'll post a link after eating.

Tried Avastclear in safe mode twice after reinstalling and uninstalling Avast, no effect. Tried installing then uninstalling with Revo, unfortunately no effect also. But if it doesn't matter for the Windows 10 upgrade, not the end of the world.

I'm using Windows from the Media Creation Tool, I've tried starting it from a ISO and from a mem stick too but I get the same "SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED" blue screen error at about 75% into doing updates. Error message says:

0xC1900101 - 0x40017
The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during BOOT operation

I used FRST to find reg entries and delete them but there's no change. Should I be searching for something else?

How did you prepare the Fix script?
Are you familiar with using FRST & Fix scripts?
Did you place load Component Hive first in Fixlist?

[/URL]

I did not prepare it in general whoops, I don't know how to use this thing and that tutorial is incredibly long.
